Too long for me, but excellent otherwise
This thing is HARD CORE! I bought the Short version as well (which I'll be keeping) since this is so big, but I'm sending this bad boy back. The blade has excellent build quality. It's lighter than I would have expected, but I'm sure it can take a beating. The grip feels great, and the pummel would be perfect for pounding stakes and general hammering. My only issue is I don't need that humongous blade. I wish the short version had the same grip as the original. Too bad for me, but if you're looking for a 7" blade, you've got a serious winner here!

Breathtaking!!
KA-BAR still makes them every bit as good and rugged as they always have been! Rare to find in America these days. They are now using a black coating on the blade and metal bits, and it isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing but no doubt increases corrosion resistance and these are working knives made to be used so it fits well for the purpose. Edge geometry is picture perfect (can’t say that for all American brands now, I’m looking at you, Case) and the knife is SHAVING SHARP out of the package. Ka-Bar is using very good 1095 steel for these and the guys on the knife websites say it’s really good stuff. The leather washers on the grip are incredibly well done and super comfortable. The whole knife is pinned together very solidly and neatly. I enjoy that this model doesn’t have a Service branch name on it as I’m Air Force and would feel weird using a USMC, USN, or Army marked one. The included sheath is of surprisingly excellent quality and is thick, strong leather. The sheath is from Mexico but they do a very good job down there. It’s quite close to the original WW2 sheath with the exception they use rivets now instead of staples, which is probably a stronger setup anyway. Overall this knife reeks of quality and is outstanding in fit and finish. I plan to attach this knife and sheath on my original WW2 surplus pistol belt an use with my M1 Carbine. I bet the Marines and Sailors back then would find this modern Ka-Bar every bit as good and in some ways better than the ones they had then.

High quality and arrived sharp.
The Ka-bar Single Mark is my favorite knife of this pattern so far. I own the Ontario version, also bought the Case version and returned it.The Ka-bar Single Mark I received displays higher quality fit and finish than those other knives. It arrived sharp, very sharp and ready to go right from the box. I like the zinc phosphate coating on the Ontario and Case versions better than the powder coating or whatever on the Ka-bar. The Ontario 498 is runner up with a lower price, but dull as a butter knife out of the box. The Case was rough looking and dull with many sanding irregularities on the leather handle along with a similar price to the Ka-bar; returned. As always YMMV, these are just my experiences with the knives I received. That being said I have two versions of this Ka-bar pattern and both are very good.

Ka-bar = Quality
Have lots of ka-bars and beckers and have been waiting for awhile to pick up this single mark. Great knife great tool beautifully done and beyond sharp. Like always Ka-bar did a awesome job. Sheath is leather like a medium weight saddle leather, decent and simple but like most of my knives I like to make my own leather sheaths depending on what and how I want to carry and use it. The glass filled plastic sheath for full size ka-bars works well and secure with this knife being the same besides not having a mark on the other side. Worth the money and satisfied.

So sharp . . . .
This knife came out of the box with a very sharp, durable edge. And the smell of the leather handle . . . . chef's kiss . . . . .

This is a great field knife for camping chores
As described, a respected brand that will not let you down. Used as a Soldier in combat situations and for more mundane camping and field work. There are more modern styles with different shapes and sizes but this is a solid design for heavy duty work in the field that is reasonably priced for the quality and durability provided. If you are not a collector but a real user...this is a great knife and it's made in the USA.
