I use mine with the post on my left.

Q: What's the height of the casters/base? Trying to see if this will slide under our low sofa.

You need to level it if you don't use the casters. The end of the feet of the stand have the bottom of the rod reduced so it sits even when the casters are installed. If you don't use the caster's, the stand will wobble.

Overall Height: 22 - 36.5''H With the top tilted as far as it will go.

Yes, It can be adjusted to a number of angles one of them being perfectly flat
