How to Solve Word Problems in Calculus

Highly recommended.
The book explained calculus in simple form to be understood by students who will be taking up the subject. Although it did not discuss all the topics in calculus that could have been explained in the same manner, I still gave it a five star rating and hoping a second volume will be published for the undiscussed topics.

Contains all the Classics!
I was first introduced to the mysteries of limits, differentiation, and integration in the Winter of 1966. I used a text no longer available, one that really stretched your abilities through the variety and difficulty of elementary problems offered up for exercise. Since that time, I have seen many a calculus book come and go where most contain the same old tired and unimaginative problem set. This book definitely fills that woeful gap. Not only does "How to Solve Word Problems in Calculus" present a great variety of classic derivative problems completely worked out, but it also presents the solutions in a step-by-step fashion, which helps the student thoroughly familiarize themselves with a basic problem-solving process as presented in an early chapter. One thing that I like is the emphasis on precise picture drawing that allows for crucial left-right brain integration--very important when trying to figure out exactly what quanity (and subsequently function) we are trying to optimize. If the book has a weakness, it is the lack of really new and innovative problems in integration. But, integration has traditionally been a subject that eludes elementary applications other than the usual geometric fare. Don't let this stop you from buying this great and valuable teacher resource!

5 Stars for connect...
This is a great book, covering a seldom discussed part of solving calculus problems - setting up the problem. The content is easily 5 stars. However, the binding is terrible. The book does not open well because the pages are improperly bound. Which is not the primary problem, given that the pages quickly come loose and fall out. Hopefully the book will be offered on Kindle, as is the Algebra version. Or perhaps McGraw Hill will just properly build the book. Still, the content makes it worth the trouble.

Problems for all subjects
I actually ordered this for another teacher, so I don't have firsthand experience using it (I've forgotten everything there's to know about calculus). It has practical problems for various fields including economics, chemistry, biology, etc. The teacher I ordered it for is a popular calculus teacher who says it's a rare find and wishes there were other books in the series for pre-calculus, trigonometry or algebra. Based on his praise of the book, I gave it 5 stars.

it's calculus, find as many ways to solve it ...
it's calculus, find as many ways to solve it as you can! This book helped. Just remember you have to put in the time and work to learn anything.

Word problem woe's
If you are like me and never quite got how to do work problems then this book is for you. It explains how the adjectives and adverbs translate into mathematical terms that you can use to solve any textbook word problem that you would encounter. It is even good for business and engineering problem solutions.
