I am very sad to return our Miele having had such high hopes ...
I am very sad to return our Miele having had such high hopes for this beautiful wee vacuum! We wanted to have the Miele quality and were willing to sacrifice in order to purchase it. I am very petite (5') and have disabilities so I really hoped this lavish (for us on our fixed income) purchase would allow me to help in the vacuuming chores. It is so tiny I figured I could handle the hose portion without risk of injury - but because the head doesn't roll smoothly and the hose is stiff and unwieldy, this isn't the case. For such an expensive little canister, we were dismayed to find that the head is constructed of plastic and that it does not work on our large area rugs. We've tried playing with the suction and simply cannot get the head to roll when its pushed. It just kind of stutters across the rug and/or sticks, making it impossible to vacuum. This means Mr. Consumer King has to drag the old upright Oreck (the monster we were trying to replace) down from upstairs. This is very inconvenient, inefficient and essentially renders the Miele useless to us.I speculate that the problem with the head is that it is too lightweight, and has no substance. Also the wheels on the head seem to be inadequate. Perhaps they are also made of plastic, have insufficient bearings, are just too small - or something. Whatever the reason(s), the head won't roll across the carpet. The result is the aforementioned, very frustrating and unproductive, skittering and sticking. The hose was a part of the overall problem as well. It is a stiff plastic that doesn't flex and move effortlessly like the old cloth hoses did. I am sure one reason plastic was used in both the head and hose was in an effort to keep the system (more affordable and) light, but that doesn't add to the package if it renders it unusable, in my opinion. A couple more pounds of weight would be a tradeoff I would invest in, if I was only financially able. The final thing that pushed my husband over the top was that when he would pick the machine up and carry it, (as was his preferred method of using the Miele. He is 6'1", and the entire system felt too short for him...), it blew the exhaust air out of the top sending dust, papers etc. flying, essentially undoing all of his work! My frustrated husband was brought to the point where he finally said "RETURN THIS!".This is not an all-negative review though. There are good things about this vacuum. It is so pretty and small, it fit just right in our little closet. The suction is fabulous, it has a metal hose piece for more stability, it is so quiet, the cord automatically retracts and then there is the well-respected quality of a Miele machine. Maybe one day we'll be able to afford a Miele upright. But for now, back she goes and our search continues.

A vacuum worth raving about!
As vacuums go, I prefer if someone else is using one to clean for me. But since that's not happening, this little machine has made the experience much more enjoyable. After reading the other reviews I was convinced it was worth paying a little extra for this one, and I have not been disappointed. It is quiet, light, easy to move, stores in a small space, and has great fixtures. The cord is a great length. It works amazingly on our hardwood floors without scratching them. I think Miele thought of everything on this one. I would definitely recommend it and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

I Never Knew Love Could Be Like This
I have a Great Pyrenees, possibly the hairiest dog breed there is, so I am in a good position to talk about vacuum performance.Long before the days of Amazon reviews, people would tell me how much they loved their Miele vacuums and how many years they had had theirs. I finally had a little windfall and decided to order one of the lower-priced ones ... people, I just had no idea how much a woman could love a vacuum cleaner. Previously, I would buy a $60 job that did its basic job for a couple of years and would have to be replaced with another cheapie. They were noisy and clumsy to use and spat dust back into the air.Everything about this vacuum is superior. The hard floor brush head has rollers so it moves smoothly, with less push and pull. The hose swivels where it attaches to the canister so it doesn't twist. The hose itself is made of thicker plastic than the cheapies so it doesn't fold in on itself. The bags, while more expensive, last much longer and combined with the filters don't release near as much dust back into the air. It's much, much quieter. It is such a satisfactory appliance that I wonder how the the models that cost two and three times as much could possibly be that much better. It definitely ranks as some of the best money I have ever spent. Considering how much it is needed, what with the dogs and all, I don't even think it's an extravagance.

Efficient and ergonomically designed cannister cleaner
This 1200 watt Olympus model 300 acquired on February 15/15 completely meets our needs. It has excellent suction power with 6 different selection levels. It came with three tools and the floor brush with telescopic wand which are ergonomically designed for easy and efficient use. The unit is comparatively light in weight, and is easy to maneuver. It has an airflow indicator for quickly determining when bags need replacing. The unit is replacing a unit purchased three years ago at about the same price from another manufacturer which is no longer supported by that manufacturer for filters and parts. Bags and filters can be readily ordered on line for the Miele unit.
