I purchased this printer over 6 years ago to replace another inferior brand which was problematic. It is not used in an industrial setting, but I made the significant price difference purchase to eliminate frustration with erratic printing and feeding with my former label printer. This is a wonderful printer with LOTS of options too numerous to list individually. My only disappointment is that it will not work with single-use lithium AA batteries which never leak, and which I use in just about everything else. The lithium single-use batteries deliver a higher voltage, about 1.7-1.8V, more than the 1.5V alkaline batteries recommended in the user manual. There must be protective circuitry in this printer to provide over-voltage protection, because with single-use lithium AA batteries, the screen remains blank and it won't power on.. I don't want to chance alkaline batteries leaking and destroying my beautiful printer, so I don't leave them installed when I don't intend to use it for a while. I am very satisfied with this great label printer!

It's so refreshing to buy a product that actually meets and then exceeds your expectations and this label maker certainly qualifies. Operation of this product is very intuitive and is feature rich, so many features that you might have to refer to the manual to take full advantage of its capabilities. For simple labels, load a label cassette, pick your font size, input your text and print. Mechanically it's very robust, the rubber bumper does a good job of shock reduction. The screen is plenty large and easy to read and its memory will be retained when you turn it off (hooray - my last label maker had no permanent memory.) The labels themselves are very high quality and there is a label for any application you might have. When it's time to cut a label, the manual (built-in) cutter is very easy to operate and fully cuts the label. Another pleasant surprise is battery life, I've printed an entire 16' cassette of labels (and a few others) and the battery still shows to be full. Cons: Honestly I can't think of any.

The basis for 5 Star is the BMP21 is light years ahead of other popular brand printers in terms of capability and quality. There's no need for concern about the labels, they are much more durable and sticker than their competitors' labels and sufficient for wiring and flat surfaces. The printrer's firmware takes care of the mode (wire, flat surface, breaker box labels, etc). The White on Blue, White on Black, and White on Red labels are particularly attractive. The optional AC adapter gets less than 5 stars due to high price. If you don't happen to have a 4 amp (or more) 9 volt DC output adapter, get one from another source and build a crossover cable (or buy one with a crossover cable) because (as another buyer pointed out) the center pin is negative. Observe this unorthodox polarity and you're good to go. There's a vendor on the website that begins with the letter "e" that provides the proper 9volt 4 amp adapter with crossover cable, for half of what Brady charges, and it works perfectly.

I ordered this for my job because the regular model had received such great reviews online and from a friend in the same industry, so I figured anything with "-PLUS" on it must get 6 out of 5 stars :D Right out of the box it didn't work. The display shows the batteries are near dead, so I put in 6 brand new Duracell 1.5V alkaline batteries and....it still says they are near dead. So, I requested a replacement on Friday at 3:30pm and it arrived today Monday at 4pm. Kudos to Amazon Prime for their delivery speed. I pulled the new one out of the box with excitement and....it did the same exact thing. The....same....exact....thing. I called Brady customer support, spoke to the very pleasant Bobby. He asked me the basic troubleshooting questions and said he would send me the AC adapter free of charge to test if the printer is the problem or the power source. Fine by me, I am always near a 120v plug. I can not rate this product anything above 1 star until I can get the dang thing to work. Update: After receiving the power adapter, the label maker works great. It is the best label maker I have used. The stickers are easy to peel and options to customize font and label type are great (I usually just use wire marker). After dropping it once or twice, I found it to be very durable. It still doesn't work with batteries, but I am always near a 120V source. If I had to make one change, it would be to have some sort of clip you can secure the AC adapter wire in, b/c sometimes the plug falls out while I am using it. If it worked with batteries, I'd give it 5 stars. Still a great product, though.

This printer is a great update of the original BMP-21 model. The extra features and improved ruggedness made this a perfect choice to replace my Brady, ID-Pal printer. The cost was even lower than the original ID-Pal. As other reviewers have mentioned, the cost of label material is fairly expensive, but all of the cartridges I have used have performed well, even after storage for extended periods.The variety of label widths and printing formats make this an excellent accessory for broadcast, electronics and electrical installation work. Even the labels I installed many years ago have remained securely adhered to wires and panels, with printing that is very resistant to fading and smudging. The battery life is good, even when occasionally using the display back-light. The label cutting blade is clean and accurate over time, unlike many other labelers I have used. I would not hesitate to buy this printer or other Brady products again.

I have tried many label makers over the years: Brother, Epson, Dymo - my favorite was Epson for a long time because the one I had was easy to use, the batteries lasted and there were plenty of tape types from which to choose. However, I could never find a type of label tape that would stay on cables. Eventually they all fell off from either heat (connected in a rack, often plugged into connectors positioned behind the exhaust fan of gear), bending or friction. I decided to go with Brady since it seems this label maker is used in many industrial applications like electrical panel labeling and IT data centers. I was especially interested in the self-laminating labels. Well, they didn't disappoint! I have used this for about two months now and not a single label has fallen off, even after winding up the cables and relocating to a different studio. I saw some comments that the AA batteries don't last long in this label maker - that may be true if you leave it on for long periods of time but I generally label a few cables, turn it off and run/connect them then turn it back on again when I am ready to make the next labels. Doing this, I have been using the same batteries for a couple months without having to change them. My ONLY gripe with the unit is that after it sits for a while the first label printed will have a thin black line at the head of it - maybe where the tensioner or cutter was sitting on the tape in storage. It's nothing that would prevent me from using or recommending the label maker, though. The first cartridge I received ended up with a broken ink layer so the labels were being advanced out of the machine but nothing was printed on them. I contacted Brady and they mailed me a replacement free of charge. Good customer service, quality build and labels that stay on.

As far as lable makers go, this is one of the best out there. Easy to grip, type, and replace your lable cartridge. Navigation is fairly simple and you can find helpful video tutorials as well. The nylon lables are amazing and work very well. They don't fade and if it gets painted over you can scrape the paint away and still read the lable. It is a bit expensive and it doesn't come with all the accessories, you have to purchase them seperatley. For getting started it has what you need to get the job done. Don't forget to register the unit with Brady, They sent me a free replacement cartride in the mail. Even thouh it is a bit pricey, it is well worth the cost. It is rugged and will last you a long time. Buy with confidence.
