As expected even surprising
I purchased this radar detector to use in New Zealand. This radar detector performed to my expectations and is a generally a well made device. Really good mounting bracket and suction cups. My only annoyance is the bracket release button is a little small and requires quite a lot of push in order to release the unit from the mounting bracket. The only other radar detector I've had is a "Uniden" branded locally sold model so this is all I can compare it to. Performance wise the radar detection distance varies (due to environmental factors of course) but generally it starts giving a reading about 400m to 500m away from the source of the radar signal. In New Zealand there is only one radar band and laser that is utilised so X band and K band (i think) is normally used by automatic door openers in retail stores and security alarm systems. Laser is not really useful as by the time the detects laser you are already in trouble. A really useful way to describe it as I've seen in other reviews is that this detector would suit drives who are maybe 5 to 10km/h above the speed limit. If you are planning to drive much faster than that this device wouldn't give enough warning. The "city" mode is effective in muting the majority of the "false alarms" when in town but they are still displayed on screen. "City 2" mode deletes X band altogether so it would suit someone who gets irritated easily. False alarms in urban areas are common and are a reality in my experience so I've accepted it. If you really don't like false alarms then I recommend you invest in something that has an "Auto-Learn" feature. I purchased this model because I thought it was an updated version of the XTR-140 which I believe it is.Other than that as mentioned in other reviews its is not a police detector. It is a detector of a police vehicle with their radar switched on which I've discovered with this device is not really that often. So at the $50-$60 price point offered to me it represents good value and performs to my expectations.

Excellent radar/laser detector on 4000 mile trip...
This is an excellent radar/laser detector. I used it on a trip in late 2015 on a trip from California to Colorado and then to Texas and reversed my route back again. Round trip approximately 4000 miles. I travelled through one of the biggest hot beds for tickets California to Las Vegas where law enforcement is always out in force on both sides of the state line. The unit worked great. No tickets or pullovers anywhere on this long trip. The majority of the time I had an alarm I would later spot the troopers or highway patrol either hiding on the side of the highway, at the bottom of a hill, behind a bush, in the process of pulling over a vehicle or parked behind a vehicle they had stopped. Just because there were times I didn't see a cruiser after the warning doesn't mean they weren't there. I think some drivers make the mistake of thinking that because they don't see a cruiser it isn't there. They start to ignore the warnings and that's when they get caught by law enforcement. I believe the unit gave very few false alarms. I did have to reset it once or twice by unplugging it and plugging it back in. But over all it was very accurate and gave me plenty of warning to slow down, usually a distance of a couple of miles or more. The straighter and more level the highway and the less obstacles the further the warning distance. I paid only $40.12 for the unit vs. the cost of a speeding ticket that can cost hundreds is worth it to me, plus a great arrival time to my destinations. A bonus is that its great for night driving as it often beeps and helps to keep you alert. Hope this review helps.

Very good radar detector, absolutely worth the price
I have had this thing for 6 years and it still works great. It is slightly cheap construction but is worth the price. It works great and picks up radar signals really well. This has several modes to detect different radar types so automatic doors and other sources can be avoided. The sensitivity can also be changed by 4 levels to fit your surroundings which filters out noise if you’re in a city or makes it more sensitive if you’re on a highway in the middle of nowhere. The only problem is that it frequently picks up either false positives or radar that is too far away to be helpful, I’m not sure which is the case, probably a little of both.Even with a little over-activity it never fails to pick up a real radar signal from police and has saved me from a ticket too many times to count over the years. Would absolutely recommend this for anyone trying to avoid bull**** tickets

I'm either insane or this is a really good radar detector...
When I purchased this item, I thought it'd be similar to a Cobra brand unit, meaning every automatic door, radio frequency, security system, or home motion detector would set it off and also that it would have low range for the actual police...I was wrong.Works almost flawlessly, minus a couple 1 bar ka band interference beeps from passing trucks. Even detected a police radar around a bend through some woods. Caught the troopers laser on the freeway, about 20 seconds before I saw him behind the bridge. Was amazing. In town I had no annoying pickups from doors or alarm systems. Truely amazed by this cheap thing... It's almost as good as my old passport 8500, honestly. And that thing was truely expensive. Though that one didn't pick up the trucks...Either way. Worth every penny, and it's not very many. I vote buy it.
