Learning to encourage ourselves
We can spend way too much time, ruminating over our past, or perhaps trying to defend our indefensible actions. But let's quit spending time spinning our wheels. Living a life of imperfection, asking for help, and choosing to help others, if they want help.Life is a process, not an event. That's almost a clique. Yet, profound. When we quit trying so hard, and accept ourselves for who we are, and allowing the Holy Spirit make us more capable than we would be otherwise.Instead of looking outward to comfort ourselves, now we are ready to look inward for comfort and encouragement.Life becomes much greater than an event, the process contains mystery and we will find serendipity in our relationships with God, ourselves, and others.

Quick, Easy Read
This book is great for the person who doesn't like to read or reads short books. It is fairly quick in length and easy to comprehend. It is almost like a "making amends for dummys" type of book, but it also breaks down how rewarding making amends is. I bought it for a friend while in rehab and I was told it was helpful. I read it myself before gifting it so I could better understand what they were going through. It is good for anyone who is trying to make amends or forgive someone in their life. I would definitely recommend it.

An honest and expertly written book
A well thought out, honest approach to the pitfalls on the road to alcoholism recovery by a man who describes himself as both a counselor and as a recovering alcoholic with many years of sobriety. I believe him, it is an honest, direct, no-fooling-around description of some major potential problems and how to avoid them...or how to recover from them if you haven't avoided the problem in the first place. This man knows both the problems of early and later recovery. A fine book. For those who haven't read his earlier books, I would recommend starting there.

I read this in 2 days!
Really loved this book. I work from and refer to the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. I love to learn and expand on the principles of the program and this was a great read. It differs from the 10th and 11th step direction in the big book.I got so much from this book and I highly recommend it!

I have read all of Doctor Berger's recovery book's and this one is my favorite. I had to really look at myself and realize who I am. It is a great guide for understanding and making amends. I recommend this book to everyone I have over five years of sobriety and this book helped me get to another level one day at a time.

Dig deep - raise the bar.
Another in Berger's series that turns over the stones and looks at the rollie-pollies underneath the facade of recovery. Well worth the time to dig into, especially with a group looking to raise the bar in their own recovery.

Worth a read.
Beautifully written and easy to understand putting into words what one may already suspect but provides framework to make the ideas useful and practical.

I love this whole collection
I bought this book because I struggle with these two steps in particular. I was not surprised when I found so much more in here of value as well. I love this whole collection!! Allan's language is to-the-point, and I find him easy to relate to. I highly recommend this and the rest of his books , particularly if you're in early recovery and struggling with some key concepts. Love it!!
