Well written account of the key stories in the Srimad Bhagavatam
I've read the full text of the Srimad Bhagavatam as translated by Swami Tapasyananda in four volumes. This book by Kamala Subramaniam serves as a valuable summary of the key stories and episodes in the Srimad Bhagavatam. The recounting of these stories and episodes are very well done and makes the reading of them most enjoyable and uplifting at the same time. These stories certainly invoke the feeling of Bhakti (devotion to the Lord) in the heart of the reader. The entire Srimad Bhagavatam text can get confusing at times in terms of the stories within the stories as well as the lineages of some of the great personages being narrated upon. This book simplifies these very well and it is much easier to get a better understanding of these as well as the relationships between some of them.My only small negative comment is that the transition from one story to the next could have been done a bit better to ensure the continuity of the overall story of the Srimad Bhagavatam as the end of one story and the beginning of the next feels disjointed at times.Just the reading of the sportive deeds (Leela) of the Lord has the effect of awakening devotion to the Lord (Narayana) and in this regard this book provides an invaluable service.I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

Shrimad Bhagavatam in a simple, lucid language
Kamala Subramaniam has retold the story of Shrimad Bhagavatam in a simple, lucid language for the English-speaking people while keeping all the greatness of the original book. Strongly recommend to anyone who wants to gain a knowledge of the Indian culture and heritage and who wants a faithful understanding of the Path of Bhakti for liberation.

Well construed
Although in some instances you can sense the Indian English, but to a large extend it is well construed. The book is composed with short chapters which makes it easy to read.I highly recommend this and the Mahabharata book by the same author.

Construction is so-so, but contents are priceless
Not particularly well-bound or beautiful, but this translation is the best one out there if you want a readable, literate (as opposed to literal) version that isn't overly condensed and doesn't take too many liberties with the story line.

Wonderful book that faithfully records much of the Bhagavatham and is easy enough to read for young adults and older. Simple language but well expressed, and the stories are brought out beautifully. This is a must-read for those trying to acquaint themselves with the epics and puranas in Hinduism.

Review
A must have for those unfamiliar with the puranas...written in a simple lucid style the language used is v good. Unlike usual translations which jar and offend due to improper use of English, Ms Kamala Subramaniam has done a commendable job.
