Chanterelle Dreams, Amanita Nightmares: The Love, Lore, and Mystique of Mushrooms

I am just head-over-heels for this book. As an avid mushroom hunter and amateur mycologist, I could not be more excited over the fantastic variety of short essays included here -- written by a person who clearly loves the subject. What a fantastic read. You know how sometimes you know a book is good when you're reading it? This is one of those! This was unique and a prized addition to my mini mushroom library. Love it! I will let the other 5 star reviews describe this book in detail.Although this book is mostly about mushrooming in Maine, it definitely applies to the mountains of New Mexico as well. A successful summer mushroom hunt in New Mexico is bringing home King Boletes, Chanterelles, and Puff Balls.I really like how he ties the whole forest ecology together. Everything on the forest floor works together, and cannot succeed without the contributions from the various fungi. What he describes, I have seen myself, but did not know until reading this book what I was actually seeing.

Got it for my mom, whom loves mushrooms, and she was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't just another mushroom book.

I love mushrooms. I work with Amanita Muscaria mushrooms, so the title alone caught my eye. Mushrooms of all types are very mysterious and magical. I haven't finished reading it, but certainly a favorite book of mine.

My son, a naturalist and mushroom aficionado got this (and another much more expensive book on mushrooms) for Christmas, but I noticed this is the one he was engrossed in reading immediately.
