On the cover is the photo of a beautiful woman with a beautiful smile
On the cover is the photo of a beautiful woman with a beautiful smile. She could have been a model, a tv personality, certainly a celebrity if she so chose. Instead, she enrolled and was accepted by the CIA.The first half of the book is a fun read. Ms Plame writes with a wry humor and good observation. Of course, the many lines that were redacted mar the book. The tone shifts when she writes about her exposure by the media and the White House. No matter how much you read about the PLAME AFFAIR we still cannot get to the truth. The Wilsons essentially suffered for five years, financially and emotionally. Neither deserved that and they were not recompensed by anyone. The entire affair was a very sorry indictment of Washington politics and the Bush Administration. This book was a real eye opener for me.My only disappointment is that both Wilsons became far left lunatics, not surprising given their treatment. The term "right" and "right wing" is used liberally, but never the word "left".

our intelligence community spends years to get someone like Ms. Wilson to work for all of us ...
what happened to Valerie Wilson was a travesty. This book tells what actually happened to her. We should watch out for this kind of political recklessness. our intelligence community spends years to get someone like Ms. Wilson to work for all of us and some political hack decides to ruin her career. What a mess. That guy did us a disservice.

A lot is missing due to censorship but still worth the read
A great deal of information is missing from this book due to CIA censorship. That is why I only give it three stars. Hard to believe that much editing was necessary. Nevertheless, I could still follow the story although it was aggravating at times.I was outside the U.S. When most of these events took place so didn't follow it too well. Now, I only feel outrage about how nasty politics and government can be. What happened to Valerie Plame Wilson is out and out treason in my way of thinking, Hurtful not only to her but to the entire nation as well. And Bush, Cheney and cronies got away with it all unscathed for the most part. Sickening.A real injustice was done here. I'm from the Vietnam era, and Vietnam made me lose faith and confidence in the American government. What happened in the Plame-Wilson case does nothing to restore that faith. I still love my country but will always feel mistrustful of government.

powerful story
Great book, powerful story, suffers from the redacted stuff, including things that were public knowledge (this was the cia's fault). In fact, seeing the redacted lines is rather interesting because it makes the whole thing more like "living history" - we are watching how a nation (or at least its political establishment) comprehensively disgraced itself. Riveting, far better than the movie (which felt slightly hollow).

Excellent book and service.
I bought this book in used condition. Actually it is in better shape than I expected, and the delivery was quite fast, although I did not request an especially quick delivery. This book is stunning, both in terms of what Ms. Plame wrote, but also in terms of how much the CIA redacted from it. Ms. Plame and publisher decided to leave blank spaces where the words were that the CIA objected to. In some cases I can guess what they were hiding, but in other cases, there was no obvious reason for the CIA obliterating her book other than pure spite on behalf of folks who would be embarrassed. But remember, Ms. Plame was a "deep cover" CIA agent working on nuclear proliferation issues in the mid-east, and Dick Cheney blew her cover. He should have been tried and jailed for his treacherous actions.

Insight into a Clandestine World
The amount of redacting alone indicates how clandestine the CIA continues to be, removing large sections of the manuscript written by the agent. At one point, it appeared that publication of her work would be denied by the Agency. Because the facts as they appear in the public record are woven into a third person account at the end of the book, the reader gets a fairly comprehensive picture of the agent's assignments and activities.

Too Much Missing Text
In order for the author to get this book past the CIA administration she had to agree to significant amounts of text to be 'redacted'. The overall story is still interesting, but I would have enjoyed it better if she had re-worked certain areas to provide continuity and skipped all of the 'This text has been redacted here' notations. Some pages contained as many as 5 of these notes in a row.If you are interested in how the US government manipulates the media and various organizations to meet political agendas then this is one book you should read.

Very interesting read of an ousted CIA agent
I saw her interview on The Today Show and wanted to read her new book "Blowback" and thought it would be good to read this one first to understand what really happened to her. Beware, CIA made the author blackout a lot of content but, you can read through it and have a good understanding of what took place. I read half way through though and put it aside for a fiction book that arrived from my other favorite author. It is a bit slow but, very good to understand what our government did per this ousted agent.

Censored to death
Wilson's ex-employers (the CIA) took a hard line on her version of her life and times. Most of the first half of the book is unreadable as it has been redacted into nothing. The part on the Bush government's attempt to destroy her husband and end her career are much better. Why did the CIA bother? Just google her name and ample information on her life in the redacted bits of the book is there for you to read at your leisure

If you want to know just how illegal the 2003 ...
If you want to know just how illegal the 2003 Iraq war was, just read the lengths the Americans went to to spin the UN and everyone else into a conflict that remains unresolved and which destabilized the entire region.

Three Stars
Not as good as her husbands account in the "politics of truth"

Bello, avvincente e cinicamente realistico.

HUMINT(人的情報)に関心がある人は必読である。
