POWERTEC 24 Inch Machinist Aluminum Straight Edges, with .001'' Tolerance for Checking Surface Warp, Marking/Scribing Lines - Used w/Feeler Gauges for Automotive Repairs, Cylinder Head Checks (71227)

So needed something I can reference as "straight".This is it a finely machined piece of metal that is plum for me to reference off when making amateur woodworking projects.Put this on my table saw top ... no light!Put this on my jointer top .. no light!So I cant blame the tools anymore.. If I cut and get light when referencing this bar wit my piece... it issue is me not the tool =PDIY away my fellows!

The item looked good, seems like it will do the job, but it was sent to me damaged. The package was sealed when I received it, and the package was in good shape- so I am guessing the damage occurred at the factory prior to it being boxed up. There was a large scratch on the straight edge portion that would have made the straight edge good for crafts and overall fairly accurate, but not a precise instrument capable of measuring 0.001 variations. I bought this to determine if a cylinder head needed to be resurfaced or not, but it couldn't do the job due to the damage. I am giving a 5 for the quality of the item and thinking that the item I received was just a damaged item that made it through quality control.

Lightweight but sturdy, ridged aluminum construction. Works well for checking turners of surfaces like engine blocks and head decks.

Pretty straight at a good price; note that the surface edge is flat but there seems a little bend. Handle carefully as it is not the harder material (steel) typical measuring instruments.

Made out of good quality aluminum. It is of a good thickness so not to bend easily. With only a .001 inch deviation it helped with my measurements to the bell housing to pressure plate. It is good and square, make sure you wipe off any oil on it to maintain slip resistance, didn’t slip on me when I was using it.

You can use a ruler for a straight edge, but it doesn’t work as well because this power tech straight edge will stand on edge. So I realize my workbench is not perfectly flat. This thing is beautiful. It has inches in centimeters. And it’s long enough to be useful.

This is a very nice straight edge. Has metric and standard rules on it that was important, unfortunately I needed this to cut material with and it does not have a machined edge that works well for a razor blade and cutting (they do not promote it for this application) and I needed to return it.For the price and quality this is a well made straight edge.

Nice little straight edge
