ATK2 Helmet Cam Review
I was looking for something to mount on my handlebars since I do alot of on and off road biking where I live. I did not want to spend a lot of money yet..so I gave the ATK2 Cam a look. The main reason why I got this cam was the price. Its an absolute bargin at 92 US dollars. It arrived the next day neatly packaged. Once I got it out hooked the batteries and got a memory card..I was off and running. It does take a few minutes though to get used to the controls and how they are set up..but once you've mastered that..its is very simple and straight forward to use. 3 buttons of operation here..the middle button is the record/stop/select button. The button to the right is the enter button to confirm selections..and the bottom button is the menu button..to access certain features..which is neat. Now onto playback and video quality. If you are looking for high resolution recording..this is not what you want. However, it does shoot video in VGA format..which is pretty good. It shakes over bumps and small indulations on the road..but its not terrible. With a 2GB memory card you get about 1hr of recording time..set the frame rate to 15 frames/sec and you get 30 more minutes of recording time. If you want to sacrafice a little more image quality then set it to QVGA..and you get almost 3 hours(3:30 @ 15Frames/sec). Now I have not had a chance to use the lowest quality setting yet(QQVGA)..but at the lowest frame rate you can get a whopping 12 hrs of recording time..which is really good. I recommend watching your videos on a compuer as the quality on a TV is'int that good. Battery life depends on the temprature and how much recording you do. Regular batteries will only net you, at the most, about 45 minutes @ 40 degrees. Upgrade to Lithium Ion batteries and you get 60 minutes. Slight improvment. I reccommend NI-MH rechargable batteries. I have not used them yet, but I have heard they can go for almost 2 hours between charges..and thats at 25 degrees. I would have to say about 3 hrs at normal temprature(60 degrees)..and 3 1/2 hrs at 80 degrees. To mount the cam it comes with a handlebar bracket which is fairly easy to mount. It also comes with a velcro strap to mount other places..but I have not had the need to use it yet. It also comes with a nylon band to mount it on your helmet. I have'nt used that yet..so I cant give any reviews on that at this time. What I can tell you is I would rather mount it on the handlebar since you can change modes or start and stop recordings without stopping someplace and removing your helmet. As far as computer connectvity and memory goes..you just remove the cover and you have a USB connection inside along with a memory card slot. You also have a jack to plug into your tv if you feel the need. Memory is pretty good. A 2GB card will give you 12 hrs of recording time at the lowest resolution and at the lowest frame rate. At the highest resolution and at the highest frame rate you only get an hour of recording time. A 4GB card..from what I have been told will work but it will only give you the same results..but it will work..as long as its not an SDHC card..in that case the camera wont even turn itself on since it wont recgonize them. All in all I would give this camera 4.5 stars out of 5..since it has good recording resolution and ease of operation.ATK2 Cam update 12-06-08. Cam still works good. I have noticed after extended use in cold tempratures(35 or lower) the camera will just shut off, even when fully charged batteries or new batteries are installed. This is because it just is not designed to work properly at freezing tempratures. Also if you plan to mount this unit on your helmet..good luck. The vibration when you mount it on the top portion of the helmet is so severe its litterally unusable. Works better on the handlebar. I will have another update when warmer weather returns.Update 11-28....ATCK2 is still working fine. I am not using it on my bike trips anymore. Sound is not good and the image quality suffers..and the bike mounts keep breaking, and the helmet mounts are a bit to be desired..so I give up on this camera. I now have the Tachyon XC which does much better and has a much better picture and video resolution.

If you're interested in getting this for cycling
UPDATE: After a few more tries with the camera, I was finally able to capture watchable footage. I have made several updates to my review.===================================I recently started cycling and thought some first-person video would help show some of the interesting aspects of road cycling. I have looked at professional helmet cams and they cost 500+ dollars and was excited to find an action camera for such a low price. I am giving this product 3 stars because it is very functional but it is definitely no-frills. The video quality is decent and I can probably come up with other uses for it somewhere down the line. The Details:* It has several included accessories:- Two velcro straps and non-slip rubber strap- Mounting clip to use with any of the three straps- Handlebar mounting bracket- USB cable- Video/mono-audio RCA cable- Adhesive velcro strip and a rubber strip to use on the strap mounting clip- Rubber strip/spacer for the handlebar mount- Silicon grease for use on the end cap o-ring to ensure a water-tight seal* The resolution is 640x480, think analog consumer camcorders from the mid 90s or prior.* 3+ hours of battery life. At least, this was my experience with standard Energizer alkaline batteries, recording at the highest resolution. Here are some issues that you might want to consider. If you want to use the camera, I would highly recommend working with it thoroughly before attempting to capture any footage of importance to you.* It does NOT work well indoors or in low light or excessive light. I've found that the ideal lighting is a cloudy day.* Your SD cards must be FAT16 formatted, thus, the size limit on cards is 2GB. 4+GB cards will not work out-of-the-box. There are ways to get SDHC cards to work, but they are all essentially hacks and a lot of hoops to jump through even for a computer-savvy individual. I eventually broke down and bought a 3-pack of 2GB cards.* The mic is extremely muffled (a side effect of the camera being waterproof).* No display makes it very hard to determine what you are shooting, especially when it's on your helmet or otherwise out-of-sight.* Unless you can mount the camera on a perfectly-horizontal or a perfectly-perpendicular surface, it's almost impossible to get the correct tilt. There are markers on the tilt ring to help you line it up at 0/90/180/270 degrees, but anything off from those is just a guess.* This camera has some weight to it, so if you have it side-mounted on a helmet, you might feel it pull on the side that it's on. That is how I had it at first and then tried it on top of the helmet, which also added discomfort because looping the strap through the aerodynamic holes created a pressure point.* The camera does not snugly clip into the strap clip, so the footage that I took when strapped to my road bike helmet was quite a bit shaky. I tried to get the velcro strap as tight as possible, but still had this issue. It does, however, fit pretty snugly into the handlebar mount.* The handlebar mounting bracket might be too small for your handlebars. It will probably fit most mountain/hybrid bikes and maybe a lot of road bike handlebars, but the only place where I could get the mount to fit and out of my way was at the end of the drop down. The camera had to be mounted inward so it would not interfere when I move my hand to different positions. Even this placement, though, is not perfect as I occasionally brush it with my knee when I'm out of my seat climbing. But every cyclist has different form, so this would not be a problem for everybody.* The menu system is a bit cumbersome, which tends to be the case with anything with so few buttons. It's very hard to determine by tactile feel when you're pressing the buttons hard enough, as many functions require you to press-and-hold for a few seconds. They compensate for this with beeps for verification. It was easy for me to learn how to turn it on and off and start/stop recording while it was attached to my helmet. Getting a feel for attaching/removing it from my helmet was not as easy, but I still managed to do it after a handful of tries while in motion. My rating comes down to this:Starting at 3 stars (median)+1 overall value. The camera works as described and for the price, it is a better-than-average value+1 for good accessory set0 for video quality, ok but not great0 audio quality. It's bad. Period. But it's not really an issue for my needs.-2 ease of use. The camera almost lost me on this. It took several tries to get something watchable from this camera. Had this been more expensive, I would have given up and returned it.

RUBBISH!!!!
This has to be the worst "Sport" cam ever. Blurry images, lousy helmet strap attachment, totally useless for surf kayaking should you try it.I sent this thing back within two days of receiving it.Now I will have to pay extra (as I should have cone in the first place!!) to buy a more suitable camera.
