I fill with water and insert in soil. I use them.whenever I go on vacation.

Q: how do you fill the globe with water?

Under the faucet with a stream of water that's appropriate for their size (some are a bit wider than others).

Q: I purchased 2 packs (12 total). Every single one doesn’t hold water longer than a few seconds. Is there a way to rig these so they actually work?

They should definitely last more than a few seconds; if you have them stuck all the way into the dirt (up to the ball), also for me, they are only for supplementing the watering, so I am not watering ever day.
