Lawrence appeals to common sense. It is made very clear that fancy systems are to no avail if you do not thoroughly understand them. If everybody - including those who think they know everything - in ordinary bridge clubs made the effort of reading this text then the general level would improve dramatically.

This book is an excellent teaching tool for new players as well as a good review for advanced players.

Delivery service from Book Depository was absolutly great the book was received well before estimated date. Mike Lawrence certainly has a way of talking you through his thought process and make it easy to follow his reasoning. A really great book, Acol players will need to make some allowances as the book is based on SAYC but the thinking behind the bids can be very useful whatever system you play.

Full of good info for the intermediate player.I have read it twice but have resorted to outlining it in a Word file, since the presentation of the material leaves something to be desired. It is very difficult to refer back to something since important snippets are buried in text.So I have outlined the entire book, replete with page numbers.

This reminds me of the old Terence Reese books where a great player gives you insights into his thinking and challenges your own thinking. Easily worth the money.

Clear, thought-provoking text. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to play better bridge.The section on suit preference is very clear.
