collectible kitsch
The book is like a catalog for retro/vintage collectible kitsch. Lots of photos of items (biscuit tins, perfume bottles, enamel ware, etc). A few photos of actual homes with retro collectible items. Each decade from 1920s to 1990s are covered, with an overview/summary of major historical events, popular tastes, key decor defining the decade. I found this helpful. Restoration tips and Buyer Beware Tips are in yellow boxes, which is also helpful. The content format is nice and appealing to flip through.I deducted 1 star because the photos of actual homes w/collectibles are not that inspiring or chic. The collectible items allow you to BEGIN collecting, and is by no means exhaustive of all that is available, but the background information is definitely helpful if you are serious about collecting such items.I was surprised the author did not list websites such as Rubylane or 1st Dibs, which specializes and sells vintage items, but do not offer much in the way of provenance and history information.

really nice book
This is a really nice book that captures the timeframes of which it is trying to show. I bought this for the mid century modern section and was not let down!

Good book, not exactly what I was looking for
I was hoping it would give more information about colors of walls, hardware, types of cupboards and countertops and flooring. It was more furniture styles. But still a good book.

Wonderful book - love the UK/US histories and gorgeous photos
I actually purchased this book because I've become obsessed with collecting mid-century fabrics and kitchen collectibles for our vintage travel trailer. I own a lot of "decorating" books and don't have a strong tolerance for useless "pretty pictures" of flowers and rooms that rely on furniture I don't have and never will. This book really stands out - gorgeous pictures of detailed rooms - I notice something new every time I look through this book. The author gives interesting back stories on manufacturers and uses of collectibles, furniture and fabrics - and gives a unique perspective of both the U.S. and the U.K.. My new favorite book, highly recommended for those who love vintage.

Beautiful pictures of vintage stuff
Arrived a day early. Brand new book in perfect condition for less than 10 dollars including shipping and tax! This book contains a lot of information and dozens of photos. It's a great gift for any vintage fan. It's from England, though, so there were a few things mentioned that I never heard of.

Excellent book, and a great resource
Excellent book, and a great resource. Not just a 'these are the items from this era' book, but also a social commentary of the times. Most interesting.

Outdated Vintage?
I found the style and the pictures very outdated, and that's coming from someone who's very passionate about vintage and antique decor. It appeared to be a very 'grandma' style and didn't feel relevant for anyone under 50.

A beautiful and inspiring book
This is an inspiring and very well written guide to how to style your modern home in a vintage/retro way. Reading through the book it feels like the author and contributors have allowed us into their own homes to share their passion and acknowledge of begone eras. I love that the homes covered are real living spaces containing items collected over time and have clearly not been put together just to create the latest trend. I love the useful styling tips and valuable snippets of history that are often forgotten over time, the 'must haves' and 'watch out for' tips. The author has captured the vintage home style in a refreshing light that is obtainable in most living spaces today. I am already using the tips in my own home, not copying, but grouping together using color, texture and era, and mixing with modern. I would love for the author to follow up with another book. I must also mention the foreword by Paloma Faith is a lovely touch. Thank you for this book - which is proudly sitting on my coffee table.
