A Very Nice Hand Ax
I was a little hesitant to buy this due to it being an “off brand”, but after looking at all the other options for a hand ax, and reading the reviews, I pulled the trigger. Once I got my hands on it, I couldn’t be happier that I did! The blade is incredibly sharp right out of the box. It is heavier than I thought it would be, but in a good way. I was a little afraid that it would show up being a little too lightweight for me, but I was pleasantly surprised that it provided just the right heft. It is very well built, and feels great in the hand. I was also a little concerned that the hammer head looked a little big in the photos, but was very happy to find that it is sized very proportionately to the rest of the ax. If I had to pick one thing negative, it would be the G10 handle would be a little tough on the hands if used without gloves. This could easily be remedied by either wearing gloves, or wrapping that part of the handle with para cord or your wrap of choice. It’s not too bad, but if using at length for chopping I can see the handle, at the very least, causing some serious blisters. That however, would definitely not cause me to change my mind about this purchase. I am very happy with this ax, and can see this being a permanent fixture in my kit. If you are hesitant about this ax, there’s no need to be, go ahead and pick one up. You won’t be disappointed.

Freaking awesome
The Axe: A great quality blade! Came razor sharp, has a nice tactical look, it’s durable, reliable, and sexy. The hammer is a nice feature, as is the crowbar. The handle is great. Provides a nice grip and leaves plenty of room for your hands, big or small. The Sheath: Another thing I love about this purchase. It’s a nice, durable kydex sheath which allows you to remove the axe quicker and more efficiently. It has a very nice and easy clip on the back and is perfect for any molle gear. OVERALL: A great purchase. So happy with this axe, it’s worth every dime. Perfect for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, home defense, and combat. Would very highly recommend this item.

Very sharp
Very sharp, sturdy and well balanced. Solid and has a good weight. The sheath that came with it is okay. The grip is also nice. 10/10 highly recommend.

Great outdoors tool with a few minor, fixable issues
*** I have not been offered any compensation by HX Outdoors, Amazon, or otherwise, for my opinions regarding this product *** Disclaimer: I bought this axe with the intent of having it be a bit of an art blade project. Long story short, the axe is 100% usable straight out of the box, and is an awesome tool you should buy. The Great: This axe is a fantastic buy at the listed price ($79.99 as of my purchase), as compared to other available brands in a similar style. The length is great for being able to get good swing leverage, there are finger grooves at strategic locations on the head for doing lighter shaving/shaping tasks. The hammer pad/head is removable (though I don't really have any reason to), but the advantage is this: You will NOT break the head of this 440C axe by hitting something with the hammer pad, unlike a cast/badly-forged axe of similar styling. Speaking of, this axe is FULL tang, which is inherently better for longevity & reliability. Two holes above the pry bar, I'm not sure what exactly they're for, but they're going to be used for a lanyard on mine. The fitment of the head sheath is awesome, and fully adjustable in regards to wearing/mounting position. The design of the cutting edges is, arguably, incredibly handy for different types of cutting tasks, although at first glance it simply appears tacti-cool & generally function-less. The Good: The use of the composite scales is a decent choice, but the ergonomics are lacking; HX made a solid attempt at indicating holding positions by including strangely-small finger grooves along the scales, but the overall feel of the scales is not what I would call comfortable. They are reasonably "sharp" to the touch, though this is easily correctable by sanding them down over the course of a few minutes. The addition of a multi-size hex-head wrench is nice, though I doubt I will use it much (who knows? Maybe I will). The pry bar seems very well-shaped, and will definitely come in useful if I find myself needing one. The Not-So-Great: The screws that came in the axe handle are NOT black-oxide coated, as one might assume by looking at the pictures. They ARE, in fact, PAINTED black. In addition, the assemblers clearly cheaped out on thread-lock, instead using cyanoacrylate (super) glue; the solvent in the glue obviously reacted with the paint on the screws, creating a nasty congealed mess under the screw heads. I removed the screws & posts, and underneath the screw heads, the composite itself was literally a bit melted from the excess glue reacting to the polymer resin binder in the laminate. Was very nasty and smelled terrible before I cleaned it all off. I'm really not entirely sure why they cheaped out on hardware and thread-lock, since those aren't expensive to begin with. I can't imagine HX is producing/selling these in a volume that would require the possible cost-savings of using painted screws and super-glue in lieu of Loc-Tite and black-oxide screws. My Solutions: I'll be replacing the composite scales with rosewood, profiled to match the existing scales, and I'll be wrapping the handle in a style similar to Japanese Tsukamaki, with a leather over wood core, finished in silk or leather ito (specifically in Hineri-maki style). The pins will probably be bamboo mekugi pins, rather than screws, since the ito will compress the whole thing and keep everything together. Not sure what exactly, but I'll be adding menuki to the build as well. All in all, a 4-star tool. Definitely solid, useful outdoors, and cool-looking. Well-worth the $80 purchase price. I'm making a project out of mine (like so many other people with so many other axes & knives), but this axe is more than usable right out of the box. That said, HX, please use black-oxide screws and thread-lock. Please? *** I have not been offered any compensation by HX Outdoors, Amazon, or otherwise, for my opinions regarding this product ***

Look no further. Excellent product that will last forever.
Excellent quality. Very very sharp blade, made from one piece of steel which makes it much more reliable than other competitors. The kydex holster is also great quality and I really like the part that attaches to your belt. It's very secure and won't break or wear out quickly. It has a good weight to it and you know you're holding something that will last. The ONLY downside I would say (and it isn't much of one) is that if you have big hands like me, the handle is slightly skinny and smooth to hold on to. I'm going to apply some textured grip tape to mine (the kind you would put on the grip of a pistol) and that should work just fine.

Incredible axe for the money
Comes absolutely razzzor sharp. I have axes from RMJ , Swamp rat and a few others that weren't anywhere near this in straight out the box/shop sharpness. I'm not a great fan of the pry bar it's definitely gonna bite me one day in the arm or wrist so I'll most likely chop that off an put a slight chisel or jimping on it and keep the lanyard hole portion. The g10s is nice and grippy and the choke points in the handle are indexed well with a tail grip for chop , medium grip for cutting or up to the head for detail work and fine slicing. I like that the hammer head was removable, and for my purposes I haven't much use for it and set it aside in the box. The only thing i dislike is that the sheath is left handed, it "can" be setup for a righty but you wont have use of the retention straps since the button snaps for them are molded into the left side of the sheath.

This is a multitool not just a axe. Love it!!
I really like having this tool. It’s not real heavy but still works great. I take it with me when I’m in the field incase brush or limbs are on the fence. You got a hammer for staples, pry bar to help stretch wire if needed. I’m thinking about ordering another to keep in my truck and one on my utv.
