Absolute Beginner's Guide to Wi-Fi Wireless Networking

Very good book to be used as an introductory primer or for a review of basics
Although this book was authored ten years ago the basics covered by this book are still current. I think this book is especially good for managers who may find themselves in a position where they need to be able to understand and speak the basic technical lingo applicable to wireless/Wi-Fi networks fluently in order to manage a project or just to get the job done. I would recommend reading Chapter 1 - 4 and chapters 13 - 17 (about 100 pages with a significant number of very helpful diagrams) to get back up to speed as quickly as possible. The remainder of the book can then be addressed at your leisure.

out of date
the copyright print was 2004 so there has been no updates in the book since then. over the last 10 years there has been lots of advances such as 802.11n and more not even mentioned. many of the procedures mentioned in the book are automatic nowadays The concepts are useable but thereading feels very out of date that it becomes a bit of a turn off. also the screenshots are of windows long forgotten versions.

Remember the date!
This book is OK, if you are living in 2004, when it was written. As you well know, times change, and they change really quickly in our day and age. If you buy a book from this vendor, you will find that you get quick service, and a good product. Just make sure YOU do your home work like I DIDN'T, and you won't be disappointed with the poor choice YOU made.

A beginner's beginning
Without wireless I feel a far-away sense of alone-ness and this book gives me comfort just knowing I may yet be able to put something that seems out-of-this-world in my abode. You too may yet discover your capability to communicate with the BEYOND (and I do not mean with the dead)...although...oh, never mind. Sleep on it.

outdated
The book's ok if you are dealing with older equipment. It is out of date, so some of the references made little sense to me. "Wireless Net-working -- Absolute Beginner's Guide" by Michael Miller is much easier to follow & is up to date.

Beginner's Guide - Not
I really wanted a guide to help me understand wireless connections and networking. Two issues with this book: 1) it repeats, sometimes multiple times (i.e. "refer to Ch 14 for more details"), 2) Unless I completely missed it, the book covers Ad-hoc network setup but completely missed Infrastructure setup - which is what I was looking for. In the end, I've got more questions now than when I bought this book.

Much Better Than Expected
This book is exactly what the title claims - and more. Any Wi-Fi/Wireless Networking newbie will easily learn the necessary fundamentals. Those reading the whole book will feel like experts. The author, Harold Davis, has done a wonderful job. He writes with unique style and clarity.
