In English, dim sum means “little hearts,” or “touches the heart,” but to this young girl, dim sum means delicious. On a visit to a bustling dim sum restaurant, a family picks their favorite little dishes from the steaming trolleys filled with dumplings, cakes, buns, and tarts. And as is traditional and fun, they share their food with each other so that everyone gets a bite of everything. Just right for young children, Dim Sum for Everyone! celebrates a cultural custom and a universal favorite activity–eating! Review: My Kid Loves this Book and Eats More Food! - We first borrowed this board book from the local library for our 1-year-old baby. He loved it, and would eat more food while reading this book. After one year, I saw this book on desertcart and bought it for my little 2-year-old toddler. He still loves it and reads it again and again! Now, he recognizes the characters and says their names. He wants us to tell him more about the dim sum dishes. This book is very helpful and delightful, and I hope the author Grace Lin will produce more board books. Review: Simple text, wonderful representation - Bought this for a two-year-old. She was enraptured by the drawings, which look like her family, and the text, which refers to parents as "Mama" and "Baba" (traditional terms in Chinese). And she was thrilled that one character is called "Mei Mei" (little sister), just like her. Text is deceptively simple. It's actually hard to write a picture book this simple and clear. Interestingly, I though the five-year-old would be too old for this, but he liked it too. (The final scene of the book shows an ethnically diverse array of families all eating dinner at the dim sum restaurant, so it's a nice inclusive option for ANY kid growing up in diverse community to be able to see themselves.)

Helps picky eaters
My oldest is a super picky eater. I bought this book after reading that it could help to talk about food in order to help picky eating. It helped! My 4 year old got excited about the new foods he saw in this book and tried some of them. It has colorful animations that my son loves pointing out different things on, and it’s short and sweet. Definitely recommend

Surprising Hit
Got this book a month or so in an Amazon book subscription box for my 17 month old. I got the subscription so we could get some books that may not be on the radar, and this is definitely one that fits the bill. I do want him to have exposure to other cultures and we eat A LOT of all types of Asian food, so I figured this would be a good one to keep in our box. It arrived and I was a little underwhelmed. As another reviewer mentioned, it doesn't really explain a ton about dim sum (in a kid friendly way in the body of the book). The sentences are really short and the book is quite short, even for a book for a toddler. All of that said, my son LOVES this book. He gets to select his own books at bedtime (out of maybe 15-20 available in his room), and he is currently pulling it out on a nightly basis as one of the top 3 books we must read...again...and again...and again. ;) I'm not sure what he loves about it, but he does. I am considering getting others from this author if only so I can read about something other than dim sum every night of the week. ha, ha! Who knows if he's grasping anything about dim sum, but without a doubt, he loves this book. The book is probably 2-3 stars from me, but I'm not a child. ;) He'd give it a 6!

Everyone Could Love Dim Sum
I bought this book for my five year old grand daughter and was surprised that I liked it for myself. The dim sum illustrations are realistic enough to be useful for reference to call the dishes by their traditional Chinese names. There's also a nice story about family. I will order another copy for my friend in San Francisco who annually hosts a "staycation" in the City for her grandchildren. One of their destinations is always a Dim Sum restaurant and this will relate nicely with their activities.

A Valentine's Day gift for my daughter
We already have a number of other books by Grace Lin and decided to buy this one for my 5.5 year-old daughter. She kept thanking me for it! Being the Jie-Jie (older sister), she related to the one in the story while her younger 4 year-old sister related to the Mei-Mei. They tried to "pretend" they enjoyed the same food items as the sisters in the story. My daughter loved the pictures of the dim sum items and we all could recall our own dim sum adventures. I'm really hoping this sparks a creative cooking talent in both girls as well. The illustrations are cheerful and good enough to make me want some dim sum soon!

A delightful board book for foodies in general and dim sum lovers in particular!
You will be transported to a typical bustling Cantonese dim sum restaurant when reading this book. A mouthwatering book that introduces children to some classic dim sum dishes: turnip cakes, fried shrimp, sweet pork buns, sweet tofu, and egg tarts. A must for foodies and dim sum lovers!

Lovely simple story about eating dim sum
My daughter LOVES this book. Simple text, beautiful illustrations, just a really lovely book about a Chinese family going out for dim sum and the different dishes they pick. We spend ages on the first double page spread which is an illustration of lots of different ingredients and their names and we play "can you find the soy sauce/ scallions/ taro/ ginger/ teapot..." Great for vocabulary building. Also good to see Chinese girls represented in books just doing normal family stuff.

Short and sweet
My daughter is half Chinese and I wanted her to learn about dim sum since we can't safely go out for it. She is 13months and loves it! I especially like how it explains the origin of dim sum at the end.
