Product Description Beastie Boys' perennial debut album Licensed To Ill was the first hip hop album to top the Billboard 200 chart and has been diamond-certified by the RIAA for selling over 10 million copies. Released in November 1986, it features classic Beastie anthems, including "Hold It Now, Hit It," "Brass Monkey," "No Sleep Till Brooklyn," and the MTV staple "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right To Party." (Def Jam Recordings) desertcart.com The joke of Licensed to Ill's cover--that the Beasties could crash their jet into the side of a mountain and keep on tickin'--serves as a good metaphor for a career that even some of their 1986 admirers thought might be over after the one-time-only shock of this full-length debut. That thousands of funk-junkie wannabes have since failed at re-creating its groove, breaking-the-law vibe, and ear-splitting mix of rock and rap is an even better joke. And funniest of all is the record itself, which packs dexterous boasts, aural puns, and lots and lots of yelling into a disc that can still be listened to with as much pleasure as it gave in '86. --Rickey Wright Review: Well-made - This tour was the first concert I had ever seen love the clear vinyl Review: Classic - Brand new cd . Beastie Boys changed my life with this cd
I absolutely love this cd and it changed my life! it was one of the 2 first cds I bought when I got my first cd player. and this was back when cd players first came out. they were clunky things that you plugged into your existing stereo. they were well over a $100. License to Ill and Black Flag's Everything Went Black were the 2 cds I bought with a gift certificate. there were no gift cards back then. there were paper certificates. I was reading the 'Beastie Boys Book' in quarantine, and I went to play this cd and needless to say, it skipped just about on all the songs. it's been awhile since it's listened to it, so I came on to Amazon to immediately get a copy. when I first put it on to play, I was thrown back to high school, listening to it on cassette (it was later that I would get it on cd format) in my room with my 'boom box' so close to my ear so that my mom couldn't hear it. I would soon listen to all my music that way. they showed and taught me that I just had to open my mind and there was all types of music out there. I will be forever grateful.

Nostalgia
Back in late '86 when this came out I was 14 and played the heck out of the LP. Feeling nostalgic lately for 1986 and 1987 been buying a small handful of the stuff in those pre-teen/early teen years on CD to save me the trouble of digging through tons of vinyl in my closet to hear em again. Was never a real rap/hip hop fan, but the first Beastie LP and some other artists of the genre between 1984 and 1987 I liked as a kid and bought some of their records. However, to be honest, hearing this album after decades and me being in my early 50's, I have to say aside from "Fight For Your Right", "No Sleep Still Brooklyn" and "Paul Revere/Hold It Now Hit It", i'm really not feelin it anymore as I was at 14. But it's great nostalgia. I will mention that the remaster disc I got dated 2000 was very good though. Not brick walled, loudness war or overmodulated like most remasters since the 2000's began. So that part was a nice surprise.

Classic Old School Rap CD
I loved this CD when it first came out and still love it today. I have most everything that the Beastie Boys have recorded, and I agree that much of what they did later is superior. For example, Hello Nasty is a much more diverse and impressive work. However, I think that it's a mistake comparing their initial work with their later work. Licensed to Ill was a huge rap breakthrough. Without CD's like Licensed to Ill, rap would not have broken into the mainstream, at least not then. The Beasties personify old school rap and many people were disappointed with their later work and wanted them to record more music like Licensed to Ill. While the raps and grooves seem a bit simplistic 16 years after its release, it still sounds great. "Fight for Your Right" was and is a classic party theme. I also love "Brass Monkey." What's amazing about this CD is how many of the songs became classics (Fight for your right, Brass Monkey, Paul Revere, Hold it now, Slow & Low). Throw on this CD and just enjoy it.

A classic! Great customer service
As a Gen-Xer of course I'm a fan of this album! Unfortunately, the case was cracked so I was scared to open it. The customer service I received to replace it, was excellent! I had a new, undamaged CD/case 2 days later.
