Pleasantly surprised
The media could not be loaded. Ā My first book from Fingerprint and I was pleasantly surprised. Book got shipped immediately almost(within a few hours and delivered on the 2nd day), but again in a paper evelope(this is bad). This doesnt help if books are damaged during transit, Id have to return them. And if its purchased thrpugh deal or a special limited edition, I might not get a replacement.About the book, the covers are exceedingly well designed. The paper quality is better than Mass Market Paperback(MMP); closer to Penguin quality. The fonts are large and evenly spaced fitting only around 34-36 lines per page. Though not a collectors edition by any stretch of imagination nor would I expect it to last decades, but for the price of 150(incl shipping), Id say its a steal.Another thing is the dimensions specified 20 x25 cm is an exaggeration. IIs more like 19.6 x 12.6 cm(l x b).Personally, Im content with this, though I might later opt for a collectors edition for my bookshelf in the higher range.Overall, Im rating it a 3 because of its mediocre paper quality

The review is for the Penguin Clothbound Edition because we all know it's Hardyā¾ļø This beautiful babe was delivered at my doorstep on time, it is hardbound, beautiful, printing is of top level, one may find the print to be small, but I've got no issues while reading. It's purely a luxury š

Problem with language in book
I was not at all happy with the kindle version of this book. There was a strange use of language which I found practically impossible to read. I subsequently bought the paperback version of the book to compare both and discovered multiple differences in the two. Here are some examples of what I mean.: Book says "closing the door" Kindle says "final the door", Book - " there was also a cat in a willow basket" kindle- "There changed into also a cat in a willow basket". Book- "he busied himself about this nook." Kindle -"he busied himself approximately this nook" Book- "And lying between them( talking about a package) " Kindle- "and mendacity among them" Clearly mendacity is wrong in this context. I could give numerous other examples. It's like a very bad google translate! I think this kindle book should be taken off the market.

so much depth
I donāt tend to read whatās considered classic literature. Iāve tried and tend to find the language quite difficult. Iām more comfortable with contemporary fiction. I had to read this for an Open University course and was dreading it. Despite my reservations I ended up loving the book. The last three or four chapters had me in floods of tears. Once I got past the more formal language I found just as much to enjoy as any contemporary novel. I thought this was going to be a purely romantic story but I was completely blown away. The book starts off with what you expect from a romantic novel with three different men falling in love for the alluring Bathsheba Everdene. However, as the book goes on it starts to change into something much darker and quite heart-breaking. I can honestly say I loved this book.

A new favourite for me
I REALLY loved this book. For reasons unbeknownst to me, this is the first Thomas Hardy novel I ever read, and I am annoyed that it took me so long to get around to sampling him. I live near 'Hardy Country' too! I loved the rural, farming setting, the desriptions of the county through the seasons...I was shocked in places (when Farmer Oak lost his herd, the cemetery in the rain storm, events near the end which cause the downfall of Boldwood)... I found that the characters were all vividly depicted, I could 'see' them in my head as I was reading. Despite being the main female character (and being female myself) I didn't find myself siding with Bathsheba particularly, although I hoped she would see the error of her ways, which she eventually does so there is a "happy ending" of sorts. I will definitely be keeping this book to re-read in the future - I wish I had first read it when I was younger. With regard to the actual book itself, this edition has a beautiful cover design by Coralie Bickford-Smith.

Bathsheba Everdene
Always loved this was the big break through novel for Hardy, and the one that put him firmly on the map. First serialised in The Cornhill Magazine this then went on to be published in book form. As with an earlier novel, āUnder the Greenwood Treeā this story centres on a woman with three male suitors, with the ever-changing seasons as the background. Of course, this story is longer and is more involved, but as is so often the case with Hardy we can see the same themes and questions being thought, shown and asked throughout.Bathsheba Everdene is young but to a certain extent independently minded, but as we follow her here she has three men who are vying for her affections and she has a choice to make. Gabriel Oak is turned down straight away, after he has only known her for a short time, but with the destruction of most of his sheep he ends up working for Bathsheba, who has taken over her uncleās farm on his sudden death. Due to a dare and a joke really, the neighbouring farmer to her, Boldwood receives a Valentine from Bathsheba and falls under her spell. Then there is Sergeant Troy, who already has an admirer and is loved by another. As Bathsheba makes her choice there are repercussions as others have to come to terms with it. With finely drawn characters and some wonderful descriptive imagery of the land and the changing seasons, this book really comes alive. Through trials and tribulations, we follow this tale to its ultimate conclusion, taking in the everyday aspects of life with its tragedies and comedies, and seeing the flaws that come in human nature. An easy novel to read and one that really gets under the skin it is easy to see why I and many others are such huge Thomas Hardy fans. If you have never read this before you are really in for a treat as Hardy blends Romanticism and Realism to create something that is really memorable.
