Works fine once PS2 output type is changed via configuration settings
Must change PS2 output to Pb/Pr/Y before using. That means connecting up some other output first, like composite, in order to be able to get into the menus. Once done, output looks good (for what a PS2 and component can do, at least)

My PS2 went from Fugly on my HDTV to Crisp
These cables are Mandatory in my opinion if you're going to play a ps2 on an HDTV. With even high quality S Video/Red and whites (oxygen free wrapped too no less) my ps2 on my samsung high def screen looked Terrible. I could barely read the text on the screen, the colors were muted, and overall the picture was muddy. I bought these cables hoping to correct the issue, and they worked beautifully. The PS2 now looks better than it ever did which is great for when I start getting retro game cravings. I don't know yet what I'm going to do about some of my other older consoles (other than continually buy game collections for my 360 and PS2?) but this was a much needed, and much appreciated product. Just plug them in, and you're off to the races. Double check to make sure you're setup for component cables in the systems configuration. (mine changed automatically) The monitor is only a couple of years old. So these cables WILL work (despite misinformed reviews to the contrary) on newer monitors. Ace Combat 5 went from muddy with nigh unreadable text to very sharp, very clear overall picture quality and perfect text clarity. I'll be testing some of my other games later. But these cables are easily worth the money spent.

Totally works, but suspiciously barebones packaging with no instructions
This thing just comes in a plastic bag - the sticker on said bag has a barcode and reads simply, "Component A/V Cable for Playstation 2 - NEW". There's no company logo on the actual plug either; just the arrow on the top that shows you which side should be facing the top when you plug it into the PS2. While Amazon mentions the distributor, I have no idea who actually manufactures this thing. It says nothing of substance, which is unfortunate because this IS NOT plug-and-play, so to speak. Here are the super-simple instructions it SHOULD have. You must first boot up your PS2 with the normal A/V cables without a disc in (or with the disc tray open), and go to 'System Configuration', than change your 'Component Video Out' settings from RGB to Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr. Now turn it off, plug in the Component Cable, turn it back on and go to the "Component" Video Mode on your HDTV - the PS2 picture will be coming in clear as a bell (that's a saying, right?) Why couldn't this have said that - just the slightest piece of paper with this crucial information!? Whoever made this is a lazy, suspicious manufacturer... BUT IT WORKS! IT WORKS SO WELL! So I don't know why they're acting like they have some shoddy product worth hiding! PS2 games no longer look "blurry" or "fuzzy" on my HDTV, no ghosting or any other image issue that they previously had. They look as sharp as, or sharper than, anything else from that generation - the Dreamcast/Gamecube/Wii/Xbox1. If you've downloaded PS2 games from the "Playstation Classics" portion of the PSN on your PS3, than it's a very similar quality of visuals. It's a MARKED improvement over how things look traditionally. So I highly recommend the cable - this thing gets the job done, for sure, and it's super cheap. The PS2 library is LEGENDARY - this is serious contender for best console of all time, along with the PSX and SNES, so if you want to enjoy your games on modern TV's, you have to pick this up. Not to mention, picking up older games from the massive library is a great solution if you're looking to game on the cheap, or miss genres that are badly supported on newer consoles, like jrpgs. This is a game-changer; it pulls the PS2 kicking-and-screaming back into the living room along with any other console plugged into your HDTV, all the way up the PS4. But it needs instructions - you gotta know what you're doing first. And you also better make sure you pay attention to the plug; it doesn't seem to quite want to fit in the PS2 at first and needs some gentle shoving (make sure the side with the arrow is pointed up, like the RGB cable already in your PS2!). It seems suspicious, but it's not, and it works really well. Can't 5-star it though, since it's so weirdly presented like a shoddy product.

Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr Does NOT Equal Y Pb Pr
Component video cables for the PS2 are supposed to be hooked up to TVs that have Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr connections. Many newer TVs (like the ones I have) have Y Pb Pr connections. They LOOK the same. The manuals say that they're for component video. But there is one crucial difference. The Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr PS2 video output doesn't work in a Y Pb Pr TV! They mention this in the fine print of the PS2 manual but, as I found to my sorrow, it's easy to overlook. Before you buy this (or any other) component video cable to hook your PS2 up with your HDTV check the connections on the HDTV. If it's Y Pb Pr it probably won't work. Just to be clear, I DID change the video output of the PS2 from RGB to Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr before connecting the cable to the TV. Did not work (on two different HDTVs that have Y Pb Pr connections) The cable itself doesn't deserve a "1" rating. I'm almost sure that if you have a HDTV with Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr connections you'll love this cable. I just wish I could test it myself... ----------------- Update 12/2/2009 ---------- If you can't use component cables, S-Video works pretty well. You're much better off with S-Video than composite!

Old school gaming now in SD!
I am very glad I got this! If you want your Playstation 2 games to look their best, then you should definitely look into getting these! Provided you have a TV that has support for component video. If you're dying to play some old school Playstation 2 classics on your modern HDTV but are turned off by the dated, blurry look of composite video, then this cable is definitely the way to go! You have the three standard video jacks which are coloured Red, Green, and Blue along with the audio jacks which are coloured Red and White. This is the reason for the two Red jacks, which might be confusing for some. Also, the cable is a little difficult to stick into the PS2, but once it's in there, it's pretty secure and takes a pretty good amount of force to pull out. So there's almost no chance that it'll accidentally come loose. Another thing is while the cable itself may be inexpensive, it does NOT feel cheap. it feels like a very high quality cable the likes of Sony would probably release themselves. The only downside is that this cable is shorter than the original composite cable. Once you have everything plugged in, if you've put everything in their rightful places, you will be greeted with the standard PS2 bootup screen. If it's not already set for component video, you'll want to head into System Configuration before starting any games and make sure you set the PS2 on Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr instead of RGB. After that, you can begin playing your games! Images look much sharper and more colourful compared to the standard Red, White, and Yellow A/V cable. Especially on modern TVs. The whole thing makes your games look much better, although you might have to finagle with game options before you get around to playing anything. I've only tested out a few games so far and I've noticed quite a few of the early PS2 titles look quite dated. That said, if you don't mind your old games looking...well, old, then I highly recommend picking up this cable! You can't go wrong!

Don't part with your Playstation 2 just yet!
I've been collecting a lot of Ps2 games as of late, since they're downright dirt-cheap. As my collection continues to grow, I've been finding myself wanting to play a lot of them that I never had a chance to experience when I was younger. I hooked up my Ps2 to my new HD TV as was extremely put off by how washed out the colors looked through the typical RCA cords I used in the SD era of televisions. The more time I spent using RCA cables with my Ps2 titles, the more I found myself unable to accept this type of quality. I was ready to go back to an SD TV for this console as the image quality was just far superior-- until I found out that the Ps2 was in fact capable of a 480i image. I was skeptical of the quality these cords would provide as I know the Ps2 is not a HD console and never could be, no matter how much fooling around you do. As these cords are cheap, I bit the bullet. I made sure my console was set to accept these component cables from within the settings menu, before unplugging the RCA cables-- once I hooked up the component cords to my TV, my jaw hit the floor. The picture quality was crystal clear and the colors popped significantly. If you're on the fence about trying this, do it! They will work brilliantly. Just ensure to adjust the settings in the Ps2 system configuration to ensure these work correctly. You won't see a picture at all unless you do. There is no reason to consider parting with this console or settling for an SD TV; the Ps2 can sit proudly in the same entertainment center as your current HD consoles. Now if only those HD consoles could have a library like the Ps2-- I would die happy.

Works, great price... but noticeable interference
Look... it works, it's cheap, and it definitely beats RCA. But there's no shielding to speak of, so there's plenty of interference on the video and audio line (mostly, they interfere with each other, so that you can "hear" the screen (mild buzz); if you see a cycle through a few screens of solid colors (like openings to some DVDs), the buzz changes on each screen. And there's little blurred line segments that pop all over the place in the video. I find that much of the time I don't actually see the video interference, though - it's by far the most noticeable on solid-color screens, and especially black. And the buzz isn't usually that noticeable, either. Still, a much higher-quality cable isn't much more expensive, nor hard to find. When I tried this cable, I immediately placed an order for TNP PS3 Component AV Cable (6 Feet) Premium High Resolution HDTV Component RCA Audio Video Cable for Sony PlayStation 3 PS3 and PlayStation 2 PS2 Gaming Console [Playstation 3 ], Just tried it out now, and the picture and stereo sound is flawless (plus, that one also apparently provides composite video as well (the single yellow video line), so you can use the very same cable with older TVs that don't have compound video support.
