The Tao of the Dude: Awesome Insights of Deep Dudes from Lao Tzu to Lebowski

An amazing read
I am a certified Priest of the Church of the Latter-day Dude.I bought this book thinking it would just be a cool and light-hearted read to kill some time.I was right and I was wrong. It was exactly that, at first. Then I started to really pay attention to what was written in this book. I dug beyond the surface, saw things beyond a basic platitudinal understanding and took them in, allowed them to marinate in my mind and out came a life changing experience.I'm not gushing or being flippant when I say that. It really is a book that, if you will give yourself over to the things that are available to be learned, can alter your outlook and perspective on life. It is something I have been recommending everyone I know to read and if they do, I am so happy for the journey they potentially have in store. And if they choose not to, whatever. It's cool.Buy it. Take the ride, for after all "It's just a ride" as a wiser fella than me once said, and be prepared for what could be one of the most enriching reads you've had in a good long time.

What a load of crap!
This book has nothing to do with the Tao, psychology, human insight or behavior. It has nothing to do with religion, comparative religion, logic or human behavior. The author makes so many claims that are factually incorrect that you can't turn a page without fact checking him! The author's opinions are listed as facts and the entire book is basically one man telling everyone else why they should love the big lebowski and then trying to tie the the movie into everything from science, religion, metaphysics, language, drugs, politics, etc. Given enough paper, you could probably make the same claims of a phone book or the New York subway system! Over half the book is rambling quotes the author has included from varied sources throughout history. It reads like Japanese stereo instructions! I don't know if it's drugs he's taking or drugs he needs to be taking, but this guy should be under the care of a doctor - not writing books! I think I am actually dumber for having read this drivel!

So much more than I had anticipated!
This book is so much more than I had anticipated. I had expected an entertaining, probably light weight mixture of movie review and pop philosophy. Not so. It has opened, for me, a door to the world of Taoist thought. I have gained real insight from reading about such topics as love, money, and work, and their rightful roles in our lives. It's no college text, but if you are looking for a comprehensible, and enjoyable introduction to aTaoism (and to a certain degree, slackerism) give this book a try.

Dudeism as explained by everyone else.
Good book on what Dudeism is or should be. Great references from other great dudes and special ladies in history who embraced they way of the dude and just chilled in order for the world to keep turning.

because I am just taking it easy, man
Really liking this book. Not quite done yet, because I am just taking it easy, man. I didn't expect it to be half quotes; I knew there would be a lot of quotes, but most of the chapters are a page and a half from the author, then 2 or 3 pages of quotes; for each chapter.Chalk full of good material though. You know, a lotta ins, a lotta outs, a lotta what-have-yous. And, uh, a lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Duder's head.

Would highly recommend this to anyone who is struggling with finding their own philosophy, for this book contains many quotes from many great thinkers, not just the authors.

Better than I anticipated.
Bought this book as a joke, as I liked the comic possibilities of Dudeism, but found it to be really useful and much better than I anticipated. A great book to dip into for inspiration. Taoism for the 21st century. Well done.

For the Armchair Dudeist
I just want to let everyone know that quotes make up at least half of the content of this book. It's still a good read though, and a nice book to have around to pick up and flip through from time to time. Good food for thought and a nice light-hearted read.
