Klein Tools ET140 Pinless Moisture Meter for Non-Destructive Moisture Detection in Drywall, Wood, and Masonry; Detects up to 3/4-Inch Below Surface

After dealing with a suspicious damp spot near our bathroom wall, I picked up the Klein Tools ET140 and I'm genuinely impressed. This pinless meter scans up to 3/4 inch below the surface without poking holes in your drywall, which was exactly what I needed to track down a slow leak without causing more damage in the process. Setup took maybe two minutes — power it on, select your material type, and start scanning. The readings were consistent and repeatable, which gave me real confidence I was getting accurate data rather than random numbers. I was able to map out the moisture boundary around the affected area and confirm when it had fully dried after repairs, which was incredibly useful. At $49.97, this feels like a genuinely fair price for a Klein Tools product. The build quality is solid, the interface is straightforward, and it performed reliably every time. Whether you're a homeowner doing preventive checks or dealing with active water damage, this meter earns its place in the toolkit. No complaints whatsoever.

Used this moisture meter before purchasing a boat to check the transom and learned that we shouldn’t make the purchase based on their high asking price for the boat! It was easy to use and showed that the transom of the boat had a high moisture percentage!

Seems to work well and readings are reasonable. No, this is not nist-certified but Im not using this for paid professional purposes. I used it to verify that my packages of New wood flooring had acclimated to the house, and that humidity levels of New flooring was within a couple percentage points of the underlayment in the room. The $50 paid for this tool guaranteed that $1000 worth of flooring was ready to install. Get that step wrong and you could have a floor that buckles or shrinks! Money well spent.

Seems inconsistent but good enough for my purposes. Gives a general idea of moisture content without damage to walls. Metal corner bracing skews the readings unfortunately. Overall, a good product

Water spots appeared on the bathroom ceiling that sent me into panic mold mode. I scheduled a Home Contractors Company to come out and take a look. Inquiring from the Service guy I learned there's actually a tool for testing moisture levels and in my oh my god it's mold mind I immediately had to have one of my own. I started reading product reviews and Handy Man testing reviews. This Klein model is rated most accurate at a much lower price. Easy to use with clear accurate results. I am so relieved that I myself are now able to detect any moisture causing mold problems before it happens. Most other products can only do this test by puncturing 2 holes in each and every area you want to test. Thankfully I can avoid having to repair drywall by testing throughout the entire house. I am not tech savy at all and can use this as easy as using a thermometer! Compared against the Service Companies testing device it was spot on accurate to a .001 difference in sensitivity. At about the size of a cell phone with large Lcd viewer results screen a simple 3 button user interface and accuracy it's a must have. Thankfully it's made of a thick molded plastic to withstand the multiple times I've dropped it already. I would recommend every Household concerned about mold purchase this product.

I just got this. I have a full basement and while the walls appear dry I've always wanted a reasonably priced moisture meter to stay on top of things. I also plan to use it to monitor my boat. I know that it isn't intended for fiberglass but in at least one review I saw that it can be used as a relative check. Find a place that you know is dry and see what the baseline reading is. Then compare that to other areas in the boat. I haven't tried it on the boat yet but I have tried it on the walls in my basement. I like the fact it is light weight, easy to use, has a hold button and the price is great. Klein tools have always been very good to me.

Well, I wanted something that could read moisture levels and I know at this price point, getting accurate readings is wishful thinking. But knowing tracing the source if a leak or moisture breach is expected. This tool seems to at least work for that. As with all Klein products this built to a good standard. It even comes with a 9v battery. But no case is included which is a bummer. Playing around with it, I could identify damp areas in our basement after a small flood. It reads well on flat surfaces be it drywall or wood, as it’s designed to. Masonry is ok if it’s smooth, but it didn’t do as well on the concrete floor as it wasn’t smooth. So it really has its limits. I would have went for a model with a spherical sensor but either found lousy reviews or units way out of my price range. Even this Klein isn’t cheap really, but I figured they have a reputation they have to maintain so, it might be a little better than the no name brands on Amazon. This isn’t the type of thing you should prioritize getting a chart out and write numbers down IMO. But to trace moisture where it breaches your dry home, it helps to detect that. Not great, but it does work I guess. The flat surface sensor does limit its use some. I don’t know if I can recommend this yet. In my initial trials testing it, it seemed to help. But for the money, it’s a hard sell. It’s just who knows how much worse the competition is unless you spend extra for a Wagner or the like. But I’m not dropping a grand on one of these. Hopefully this will give me some valuable information one day to save me bigger money. Then I would rate it higher.

Seems to be a great moisture meter. I believe it's accurate and the readings are consistent. Before and after planing shows a difference of .4% which proves this meter was worth the money. It also works great for other materials. Would recommend.

As a plumber, this moisture meter paid for itself on the first job. I was able to quickly locate a hidden leak behind drywall without causing unnecessary damage, which saved both time and money. Habe ich gekauft für mein Wohnmobil und damit Feuchtigkeit am großen Panoramafenster (Dichtung) entdeckt, von Werkstatt bestätigt. Bisschen teuer, aber wahrscheinlich seinen Preis wert.

Handhavandet är enklast tänkbara. Stor, ljusstark display med färgåtergivning och få knappar att hålla reda på. Den har stor kontaktyta som jag inbillar mig underlättar fuktmätning. De få negativa aspekterna är att den är svår att fuktmäta hörnor med och att den oftast visar maxresultatet 100%. Det är sällan man får resultat mellan exempelvis 45% och 99%. Antingen blir det ett lågt resultat eller också springer mätaren till max, trots att man bara rör den några centimeter på väggen. Står inget om det i instruktionerna men den mäter också fukt genom laminatgolv. Ytterligare ett plus är att den är billig.
