I Might Have Giving It a Higher Rating
I first like to state I had the lock professionally installed and it works great, plus installation of the lock was top notch. Now comes to tricky part for Amazon's feelings got hurt and rejected my first review, so I'm going to try to reword in hopes of getting it posted. The person who was installing the Kwikset locked asked me if I bought this from Amazon and I said yes. He said that a part was broken, but fortunately he had a replacement part in his car. He also stated the parts for the lock looked a little dishevel. I am assuming that the lock was returned to Amazon and resent to me or the company itself just resent the lock without checking to see if the lock was defected or not. I am not saying Amazon is at fault for this if it happened, but I can't blame totally blame the manufacturer for it. For I don't know if it was a manufacturing fault or a shipping fault? All I am saying I might had rate this product higher had the packaging looked like new and the part wasn't broken. I'm not going to leave negative feedback on the installation and as a matter of factor I'm going to give the installer a good rating after I'm done with this. So in short be careful when ordering this product, for it might not be new and it might be the fault of the manufacturer or someone else. I raised the rating by a star and saying in the end the lock works and all that matters. It's going to be interesting to see if the review is approved.

Very Reliable With Code Nimbers Drawback
Good and reliable. Please consider: this lock has two numbers per button. This creates a dilemma for me because it then means that there are multiple combinations with the same exact button pattern. For example, if your code is 1234, then the same button patter is also: 1133, 1134, 1143, 1144, 1233, 1243, 1244, 2133, 2134, 2143, 2144, 2233, 2234, 2243, 2244. So that's a total of 16 button patterns that would open your lock. Even if you only used a code that requires 4 different buttons, say code 1357, then the number of key patterns would still be 16: 1358, 1367, 1368, 1457, 1458, 1467, 1468, 2357, 2358, 2367, 2368, 2457, 2458, 2467, 2468. This still means that 16 different codes would open your lock because they all match the same keystroke pattern of 1357. I'm sure Kwikset knows this but don't seem to be doing anything about it. That's why a switched to Schlage.

More and More Out Of The Box Problems
If you read a review at all, read this one, we are a retreat center and we have at least 12 of these Kwikset 99110 locks on our property. These started off great a few years ago, but these locks have gone downhill over the past year or two. We have tried to buy the same locks because we re-key them so we just need one key (an awesome feature from Kiwckset). The last four locks we have gotten of this kind (Kwikset 99110) the locks (multiple of them) have not been locking or unlocking properly right out fo the box. They will try to lock three times, then it will give a long beep and stop. At first, we sent the locks back to Amazon for a replacement, but now we are learning that every other lock we buy is actually doing this now - different doors, and different install scenarios. We ended up searching online for the issue, and saw multiple videos on Youtube and posts on message boards about this very same problem. Customers have called into Quickset and complained, and Quickset pretends like it's the first time they have heard of the issue over the phone. The truth is, there is a major manufacturer defect with these locks, which is probably why they are being sold so cheap on Amazon. I believe Quickset knows it, and they have not recalled the item, ot they are just trying to blow them out online. We have tried calling Quickset customer service ourselves, and they simply don't answer for at least 30 minutes, so we just gave up. We are going to have to start switching these locks out now, I recommend you do not buy this lock.

EXCELLENT but slight modification needed when used with a dead bolt
We have used similar locks since the mid 1990s and they are great especially when carrying groceries or for allowing temporary access to the house for a repair or cleaning etc. One issue worth mentioning that should have been considered during design. KWIKSET take note: The batteries pull up from the top of the unit (on the portion inside the house). If a dead bolt has been in stalled, then it is possible that the batteries cannot be installed or changed because they will not clear past the dead bolt structure. If I recall properly, in such a case the instructions say to disassemble the whole lock to change the batteries. There is an easier method: install the inside portion of the lock upside-down. To assemble the lock, place a piece of tape on the battery holder to keep it in place when the outside cover is attached. The outside cover should hold the batteries in normal operation. I think that I had to change the wiring location a little bit and might have applied some glue to keep it out of the locking mechanism. Kwikset should also consider adding a second small hole on the inside handle so that it can be rotated 180 degrees on the inside portion of the door.

Great looking locks, easy to install, but probably best for interior doors
I purchased several of these for interior basement doors, primarily to keep our little one out of certain rooms down there for safety reasons. I wanted to be able to lock those doors without having to mess with keys every time I wanted to open one, so these fit the bill perfectly.Installation was easy and so was programming the keypad, and being able to set all of the locks to the same key is a nice feature. The locks look great and the hardware matches that of the other doors around our house. The only thing I don't like is that the handles don't have as solid of a feel as I would like. They don't feel loose, but they definitely have a bit of play to them even when all of the securing screws are tightened down. For this reason I wouldn't use these one exterior doors (at least not without a good deadbolt in addition). But for keeping kids out of some basement rooms these fit the bill nicely.

Kwikset 99110-008 SmartCode Electronic Lock
Got these door locks for the office, and they work like a charm! Simple installation 5 minutes for someone who knows one end of a screw driver from the other. Can assign separate codes to people to give access to certain areas. No tracking information is available, but in a SOHO setting, it works. Smooth operation mechanism, with auto relocking function. Would be handy for home use, but I would not use as the only lock (GET A DEADBOLT for better home security, especially for exterior doors), unless you use on interior doors.
