KA-BAR Full Size Becker Handle Kit Canvas Micarta

I originally bought the BK-2 with stock plastic handles. I was very unhappy with the grip, so instead of trying to modify the existing handles, I started researching replacement handles. I found this Micarta handle, but saw reviews that it was a bit bright in color. I ordered it and decided to dye it and researched Youtube videos. For techniques, I saw both cold water and near-boiling water solutions and went in the middle -- very hot tap water. I soaked these in a half bottle Rit brand dark brown dye, with maybe a liter of (very hot) water for approx 15-20mins, then rinsing, and drying for a day or two. I couldn't be happier with the results. NOTE: The picture looks a bit more red/orange than in real life -- it is a very nice dark brown and I am very happy with the results. The dye probably only soaks into a few layers of the Micarta, so I don't know how this will hold up with heavy use of the knife. In any event, you can easily re-dye later. As far as the Micarta handle goes, the grip is light years better than the stock plastic grip. I highly recommend these as an upgrade to your BK-2 (regardless of if you are going to dye it). I believe these fit other knives in the BK line, but you'll have to check with the seller for verification. The fit and finish is great with the existing underlying blade hardware. Existing hardware (bolts) fit flawlessly and the black hardware looks great if you dye it darker (some owners replace with stainless steel).

Well ... At the time I purchased these scales, the picture was yellow, the description was "green" and what I received was a "sanded tan" product ... Meh ... I purchased them for the functional utility and strength, anyway ... any earth-tone would have been fine and I am perfectly satisfied with what I ended up getting. These are very pricey, to be sure ... KA-BAR should just include them on all the Beckers and pass the "economy of scale" (scales?) cost savings on to us, their valued and faithful customers ... They could sell these, in Micarta, for ~$20 more, instead of $40+ more ... There goes the awesome value ! ... Still ... These scales ROCK ! The "wood-like-grain" was not apparent, at the time of un-boxing ... At first, they looked all powdery and sanded and no real grain was immediately apparent ... I noticed that the oil, from my hands, seemed to make it look a bit better so, I retrieved some walnut oil, from my fridge, and slathered these Micarta scales "real good" and wiped them off with a rag, as dry as I could ... NOW they look really cool ... very nice "wood-like" grain and leaning more toward a lighter brown color ... like stained wood with a matte finish and, no, there is no residual wetness or stickyness ... just really nice and purdy. There is no doubt that these grips feel much better (and look WAY better) than those slippery, grivory "pretenders" ... Just wish they din't cost *SO* much ! ... Ka-Bar could help us out, there. Had NO issues whith the factory bolt length ... Applied Blue Loc-Tite and used an Allen Bit from my Leatherman Surge Bit-Kit to crank them down ... under 15 minutes ... DONE ! I am proud and happy ... My BK-2 is now rockin', in righteous style ! (and feels like a great knife SHOULD feel). Works, for ME !!

These Ka-Bar micarta handles are excellent accessory to my Becker BK-7. I had bought a very popular after market set of scales that was supposed to fit the Becker BK7 and BK9 and the handles showed light between the tang and the scales and their new screws and nuts didn't fit properly on my knife and I had to return them for a refund. I then decided to buy Ka-Bar Becker brand handles and they fit perfectly on my Becker and the rugged nuts and bolts securely affixed the handles onto my knife. I love micarta because of the improved grip and the warmer feel of micarta, especially in colder weather.

Recieved 2 sets of these scales today along with a set for my BK16. Excellent fit and finish. These scales give the knife the "warmth" of wood feel. After putting the first set on the first of 2 BK2 knives I had my wife hold both the knives, one with micarda scales and the factory original scales. Her immediate respond was that the micarda equipment knife felt warm and grippy vs. cold and slick with the plastic scales. Both knives have seen a lot of service and will probably will see even more that before due to the improve grip and comfort. Just have to order 1 more sets to rescale my original deployment BK 2 knife. Best thing to invest in for the Becker line of full size knives.

these solid handles are a serious improvement for BK-series knives - and they should be since they cost about half that of the knife! the material is good quality and the fit to my BK-7 was stellar. i don't have very big hands, so i really appreciate how they're just a bit slimmer than the stock scales. the canvas Micarta also feels much more solid and grippy! the color is very beige-brown, pretty light to blend in anywhere except dry scrubland or desert. i dyed mine with strong liquid RIT dye, first giving the grips a light sanding with 150 grit to open up the fibers (rougher would have been better to keep a grippier texture, like 80 grit) and then scrubbing and drying them with cleaner-degreaser. i then soaked them for 30 minutes in a mix of 1oz liquid dye with 4 cups of boiling water, removed, rinsed, and scrubbed them, then returned them to the dye for another 30 minutes. after a final rinse they're a nice dark brown with visible layers, and are much more subdued than the original color! however, the finish wasn't great and there are a couple shallow, uneven grooves near the butt; these may be machining artifacts or air in the composite and don't seem to affect the durability, but i'd expect a little more polish for my money. it would be nice if they came with upgraded screws, but the stock ones work just fine.

I purchased this set of Micarta handles from Tomar's KA-BAR for a BK7 as reference. 1. Customer service: At first I installed them backwards (which makes them upside down), because I was apparently not paying much attention. I contacted the seller and wrote about how they didn't fit right, then immediately after hitting send on my email realized what I had done and remounted them correctly. I then contacted them again right away and they were very quick to respond, first to say they would investigate and then after I admitted what happened they were understanding. Nice people and a great selection of stuff to boot. 2. The Handles: These are great; the original BK7/9 handles are plain, meaning no textured grip or anything on them to prevent slippage if they get wet or anything. These right off the bat have a texture that provides a good grip and good feel. They did not change the overall weight or balance of the knife in any noticeable way, though I did not weigh it before and after which I wish I had. They look good on the knife as well and as all my hunting gear is multicam (ill be getting a new sheath for the BK7 as well soon to replace the standard black one) it fits the overall strict adherence to that camouflage that I have. Shipped fast too. Highly suggested.

I wanted to give this 3 stars as I think the price is way too high, but I am the one that added it to my cart. With shipping I think I paid more for these handles than the knife! I guess that is my own fault though. That is how supply and demand works.... If you take the price out of the picture I couldn't be happier with the product. They are everything I expected. Nothing less. Nothing more. The quality and fitment is great, and I love the look as feel the handles provide. It really takes the Ka-bar to the next level. It looks and feel like a more expensive knife now. The stock scales leave a lot to be desired, so I wonder why Ka-bar doesn't have handles like this from the factory. I would have paid the difference in price and not have questioned it. Nevertheless, if you don't care about the price you will not be disappointed with the product. I love it and even though I struggle with the price I am glad I bought them and I will probably order them again without hesitation.

Super grippy and nicely contoured. Good upgrade for the BK2.

Perfect fit for my BK-2. I wanted the light color micarta so I could dye them dark brown. Came out just the way I wanted them to. I highly recommend these scales as opposed to the stock ones. Totally changes the feel of the knife to super comfortable with the peace of mind of non slip scales unlike the smooth originals that came on the knife. Well worth the money, I don’t regret this purchase. Shipping was very fast and exactly what I paid for. Would buy from this seller again.
