Going to be a wondrous experience!
Unlike other books on mathematical physics, this book is not only exhaustive but also unique in its presentation. This book contains a chapter on Linear response theory which is usually not discussed in books on mathematical physics. The language is clear and easy to understand. A few very interesting sections in the book include why the divergence, curl and del square appear so frequently, the significance of the Laplacian operator, properties of the harmonic functions and many more. On each chapter one can find something new. The physical application of most of the topics is taken from all over theoretical physics. The book discusses differential forms and topological ideas in bits and pieces. The chapter on 'operator algebra and identities' is extremely illuminating and useful. Looking for more and more books by Prof. V. Balakrishnan.

Excellent book - A must have for every Physicist
Highly recommended for developing sound fundamentals in the area of Mathematical Physics. Written by Prof. Venkataraman Balakrishnan (from IIT Madras), popularly known as Balki who is a teacher par excellence. The lucid presentation, well posed problems and lot of exercises for practice (with sufficient hints for the approach towards solutions) makes this an indispensable book for every student, teacher and practicioner of Physics alike! The book indeed reflects the years of experience in teaching Physics at various levels by the author.Using this in courses I teach at my parent Institution.

Very good content in an excellent packaging
This book by Prof Balky (as he is affectionately called in his alma mater IIT Chennai) , would give a good mathematical understanding to complex engineering problems. Though written primarily for physicists and mathematicians, every engineer can benefit from this book. Being a Naval architect myself, and with hydrodynamics being an intensely mathematical topic, infact it was a branch of pure mathematics a century ago, this book is helping me to understand the applications of Green's Theoroem , Riemann integarls ,etc. It is intense and hard reading, but worth the effort.A word of praise to the publishers, ANE Books, who have not been miserly on the quality of the book. These days all books published either by Wiley or Pearson, are of so pathetic quality that even tissue papers would fare better, ANE publishers stands as an exception. The paper quality is really good. Kudos to them

This is what I was waiting for.
Very good tool for understanding nature, a physics guy should have knowledge of mathematics as much as he/she can. This book is written by Balki sir, so of course it is excellent with content, all of what we needed to understand nature. The paper quality is best for the paperback edition. Looking forward to read and learn complete book as soon as possible. Thanks balki sir to write such a book; big fan.

This is For Intuition not for your Exams
This book serves it's purpose when it comes to building conceptual intuition in Mathematical physics. This book will be best devoured with books which contains mathematical rigor like Arfken, hk das etc. It shows you the motivation you need for all the bullshitry that's being done in the field but remember it'll be used to the fullest if you refer a text for practice. And once you are done I'm sure you'll never need any other mathematical tool ever for doing physics (definitely you'll need to update your skills as new things come). All the best!

Few words and an advice.
Its a sort of compendium of topics and serves as an additional reference book for many topics. Sadly, it is not be considered as a textbook for physics students. The books by Mary L Boas, Arfken and Webber and Harper etc are the best books to study Mathematical physics as a student. The price of the book is another factor. It must be advertized that the book is for the reference purpose and not a standard text at the graduate level.BUY this book ONLY IF you want EXTRA material and some good problems and not because the Wonderful Prof. Balaki has authored it.Once you have mastered the other graduate standard texts then one can have a loòk at it with confidence.
