it looks like this probably cost 79¢ or less to make
This is not all what I expected. The grooves that hold the ring are where the plier jaws bend. And the amount of closure is severely limited by the end of the pliers. I use hog rings to crimp bungee cord in hook ends. I use these: LEM Products 1/2-Inch Hog Rings. This plier will close these rings perhaps .03" closer than when uncrimped. In all fairness, it comes with hog rings that are larger but only slightly larger in gauge than common office staples. They are triangular <the rings> and this plier will close them, but for my purposes, they are worthless. While I know nothing about manufacturing costs, having visited the mega Chinese tool outlets around, it looks like this probably cost 79¢ or less to make. I'd recommend you stay away from these Fortunately, these were Prime items, and I can return them. I have ordered the Gear Wrench 3703D from Amazon. The reviews state they are excellent for crimping 1/2" hog rings and several reviewers stated they used them to lock bungee cord. Spend a few bucks more and get a tool that will work.
