Useless Box - Assemble Yourself - Full Kit

This was a fun little thing to put together! The end result is super cute, too.

I needed a gag gift and thought this would be great. Worked like a champ. People were amazed when I told them that it came as a kit and that I had to put it all together. I really like that it doesn't say, "Useless Box" on the front like so many others. Just having the "On/Off" switch makes it seem all the more ominous. People were almost scared of it until they tried it. Then they were like, "wait... what just happened." Then they would hit the switch again and realize that it was turning itself off and just start laughing. Some people got it, others were unimpressed. You could definitely tell who had the OCD issues and who had no sense of humor!I ended up getting it back, and it now sits on my desk. I still can't resist the urge now and then to hit to switch. It still makes me chuckle. This was awesome! I had never soldered anything prior to this, so it was a bit of an adventure. Super easy to use and the pdf they provide with directions is perfect. Big pictures that show exactly what to do.

I love these kits! Lots of fun to put together and give to others! I've built a couple now....It's a quality kit.... I've built a few. On one kit I accidentally glued the micro-switch closed. No biggie. I went to the local electronics store and bought a replacement switch. So don't worry if you've never soldered or glued before. It's a good experience. (I glued the switch closed because I got fancy and didn't follow instruction. Follow instructions and you'll be fine.)Plus, it's a solid box with proper comedic timing.Other boxes are lightly built and advertise "USELESS BOX!!" The whole point of the box is for the user to be surprised that it's a useless box. Why telegraph the punchline?

The media could not be loaded.  ***** Edit. This worked well for almost 2 months. The servo can not longer fully push the off switch. Just gets stuck turning the switch half way off. Wish I could return.Very impressed with this useless box. The link to the instructions was perfect and had clear pictures to follow. I did not have to modify this in anyway, and slapped it together in about 1.5 hours. Things you will need are good quality wood glue, a soldering iron and solder, some rubber hands to stretch around the box while the glue dries, 300 grit sandpaper, and some type of finish. The box was sanded well enough, but I thought it needed a little more as well as some top coat. Would definitely purchase this one again.

My son and I had a great time building this project and he loves showing it to friends. I'm handy with a soldering iron but if you're not, a few youtube videos will teach you want you need to know. The instructions were a bit of a hassle being on instructables but going to the all-on-one-page view make it work for me.

I built this kit as a gift for my boss, who is a total geek and loves gadgets and widgets of all kinds. I was able to build it by myself, with the occasional help from a friend lending a finger when holding one area and working on another proved too difficult. Please make sure you read the seller's info on the product very carefully... you will need a soldering gun and lead solder. I didn't notice that in the product info; I just saw the part where the seller says the kit contains all the parts you need........ not so much. Thankfully, a friend had a soldering gun and I was able to complete the assembly w/o too much difficulty. I even got the circuit to work on the first try, yay! The other challenge about this was that the alignment of the arm that turns the switch to off (the basis of the gag) was not aligned quite right so the lid would not close after the arm retreated. I had to monkey around with the alignment of the arm so that it retreated enough to let the lid close while making sure it did not rotate too far back to deactivate the circuit (hard to explain w/o pictures but suffice it to say that this kit may require some tweaks beyond the basic assembly). All in all, it came together and worked well and my boss really enjoyed it so it was a success... I just wish I didn't have to spend quite so much time tinkering with it.

The media could not be loaded.  I love assembling these laser cut all wood models. Use white wood glue. As for the plans go to the website and save the pdf. You can just use your phone. I printed the pages out. I have bought five of these their so much fun. It won’t matter if you get the glue all over the wood because you just sand it clean.

The only complaint I have are about the instructions I have a instuctables account So I found it easy enough But there should a pdf file here to get the Instructions.I did change the battery holder out and used a 9v battery instead to give it a little more power but It honestly worked great without itYou will need a bit of soldering skills and wood glue Is a very needed itemYes I will probly by a few more of these
