Eats Wood Fast!
Nice parabolic gouge. I put a 40/40 grind on it and it eats wood fast. The handle is not long enough, removed and used one of my 30" handles. The shank is 5/8" so easy to replace the handle.Note that this is a 1" gouge by English measurement, not American. The actual bar size of the gouge is about 1.2"

A "must have" tool for turning large green logs!
This gouge removes a massive amount of material quickly when roughing out large out of round logs for bowl blanks. I changed the grind to to an Ellsworth style side grind while leaving the angle at 55 deg., and it produces 3/4" wide shavings. Very impressive! This tool is a must have if you do a large bowls from green logs and don't want to spend hours doing the chunka, chunka thing. Crown Tools uses excellent steel that produce a very sharp cutting edge that lasts.I will certainly buy another and actually will buying another soon, so I can keep going without making a trip to the CBN wheel when roughing out multiple logs. I usually can get through 1 to 1-1/2, 18-20 inch logs without resharpening. Sweet!

GREAT tool for fast roughing.
Very well made and takes an incredible edge. One warning though is that if you want a more "Irish" grind then you will most likely need to build your own sharpening jig since the one inch bar stock doesn't fit in any commercially available one. (as far as I could find)

Great gouge... be aware it probably won't fit in your sharpening jig.
