Seagate FreeAgent Go Dock 100521233

I bought this dock because it would be easier to connect my FreeAgent Go drive to my work PC, and I also wanted a case for the drive. The dock works great. I have USB 2.0 ports on my PC so I only needed to connect ONE USB from the dock to power up the drive. Once the drive is docked, my PC is able to connect to it and browse all the files I have stored on the drive. HOWEVER... where is my case???? I opened the package and found out that only the dock and the other blu-ray movie that I bought for this order were in the box. NO CASE!! I gave the dock a 5 star because it really does work well for me. I am just disappointed that I didn't get the case that I am supposed to. I will send a request to Amazon.com and see if they can do something about it.

Watch out -make sure you get the correct version for your computer. I bought the dock, the hard drive, a hard-sided case - basically the whole works - for my son only to find out that this version was really for PCs and they had a separate one that was compatible with Macs right out of the box. This was not clearly marked on the package and since my son opened it and tried to install it before discovering the mistake, we couldn't return it. See the helpful comment that someone posted to this review explaining how to make it Mac compatible.After having this in my closet for over a year, my Dell crashed and like most people, I had no backup. After spending some dough to get my laptop up and running, I decided to use this backup drive for myself. It installed itself with just a few clicks from me and I had the thing installed all my files backed up in less than fifteen minutes. Please don't wait until after your computer crashes to backup files. Set a restore point on your computer and then get an external drive to back up automatically daily, weekly,or whenever you like.

Not a must have, but it sure is nice and convenient. It keeps the unit stable and less likely to slide around on a slick table top. YOU DON"T HAVE TO USE BOTH USB PLUGS! The only reason you would is if your USB port isn't putting out enough juice. I use it all the time without plugging in the second. It is marked "power." It was well worth the price. The only problem I have is that it only came in one color; I wish it would match the color of the HD.

The portable hard drive, dock and case were Christmas gifts for my son. He has been very pleased with the performance of the Seagate hard drive and found the dock and case to be very handy.The dock and case were offered free with an order of the seagate freeagent portable hard drive. It wasn't at all clear in the product description how this "free offer" was to be included with the basic order for the hard drive.Subsequently, after being charged $26.00 for the dock and case, I found out from Amazon.com client support, that they were out of stock from the "free supplier" and no longer available as "free" even though the product description still included them. But, thanks to a very helpful Amazon.com agent, Amazon.com ultimately honored the "free" claim for the items, and I was refunded the $26.00 for the dock and case. Thank you, Amazon.com, for restoring my faith in your commitment and service.

I bought this with the purchase of my backup harddrive and have never used it becuase the product requires two usb ports located next to each other to be used. I wish I had know this prior to my purchase as my old laptop had one usb port on the right side of the computer screen and one on the left. I could use it with my new laptop that has two ports one on top of the other, but the harddrive works perfectly without the dock as it plugs right into the computer through a single usb port. I would recommend this product for someone who uses a desktop and would keep the dock always plugged in for convenience, otherwise it may be an unneccasary waste of money.

The dock is a nice optional addition that enables you to directly plug your FreeAgent Go without worrying about the cables etc.What i like more is the leather case that looks cool and also protects the portable drive while carrying it with you.I couldn't figure out the usage of the second usb cable of the dock, i'm using it with only one usb plugged to my computer and it works just fine with only one usb. So don't worry about finding two identical usb ports...The list price is a little bit hight but the price at amazon is reasonable for the product, recommended if you carry your freeagent go with you frequently.

Amazon advertised buy the Free Agent Go portable hard drive & receive the docking station free. Yes, it was free, but the item I received was not the item advertised. The item # 100521233 is supposed to be silver & white - and, if you look up the item #, it should have the carrying case! The item I received is ALL WHITE & no carrying case. My receipt lists the item as Silver/White & the box it came in has the product # of 100521233 & shows a picture of the silver/white dock. Where they got this doc from is unknown! Appears it is a "special purchase" and, therefore, not the item as advertised. It does at least have the Seagate name on it. Amazon says I can send it back & they'll send me another one! Too much hassle for a "free" item! I won't buy from Amazon again if they are doing the "bait & switch" game! Ha, how do I know it won't be the same docking station? I think we Americans are buying too many things on the Internet and are getting taken, especially by the companies that are outsourcing!

I ordered this because I thought I needed it to use the external drive. this is not a needed accessory. It is okay, but not necessary.
