This M&F Western Hat Brim Cutter works well.
This M&F Western Hat Brim Cutter works well. As soon as it came I followed the directions on youtube and finished the job. I would suggest that a person cutting their brim would start at the back in case your first effort doesn't go as well as expected. I did have a tiny glitch but was able to sand out the problem immediately. Greatly suggest this little gadget for anyone needing to cut their brim a bit. Transaction was great.

Cuts Thru Brim Like Butter
I was skeptical to use this tool on my favorite hats but I took the chance and couldn't be more pleased with the results. I trimmed three 4X hat brims each took about 15 seconds. Each brim was 4 inched wide. After two passes with the 1/2 inch Brim Cutter I had a clean 3 inch brim. I didn't feel the need to sand the brim after cutting.Initially I was hesitant to use the tool due to a negative review stating that the tool arrived stuck in the down position. I opened the box and was shocked to see that my cutter was stuck in the down position (NOT). The cutter ships in the down position which will not allow you to place it onto the brim for cutting (See first photo). You would think to flip the lever into the up position BUT the lever does not flip back or forward. To use the cutter you have to pull the lever up (See second photo.) Once pulled up you applied the cutter to the brim and then return the lever to the down (locked) position then simply guide the cutter around the brim. Cuts smooth and clean. I'm not sure how it would work on a loose or floppy brim but it is excellent on a firm brim. Glad I bought it. The cutter comes in two sizes that I am aware (1/8 and 1/2). Amazon seems to only carry the 1/2 in. model. This cutter works like a charm. It's simple, it's sturdy, and should fulfill all your brim cutting needs. I'm am not compensated for this review. I'm an everyday person that needed to cut my hat brims. I saw this tool and bought it. In today's market it's becoming increasingly rare to find quality merchandise. The Brim Cutter worked as it was designed and I was pleased enough to leave this review. So if you need a Brim Cutter I highly recommend the Western Brim Cutter.Hope this review is helpful.

Costs less than a new hat...
A family member gave me a western style hat (fur felt/ fairly expensive) and the brim was way too wide for my style... I'm a fedora guy.Local western wear guy would only trim brim down 1/4 inch, said it would ruin the hat to cut more off. I said "I don't wear the hat as it is, and I need a new fedora."So I bought the trimmer (1/2") and now I have a fairly expensive fedora. A new fur felt fedora is a couple hundred $$$.

Definitely worth it
First and foremost, do your research. Call your local western stores and ask for the service. Some would cut it for free if you purchased the hat there. Other would charge $$$ and that would determine if it’s worth buying the tool. For example, in Laredo Tx they started to charge $50 per hat. To me is definitely worth investing into the tool.As for the quality, it feel great, strong and cuts like butter. I cut all my 6 hats in less than 5 min….. it’s worth it to me in my location.

Worth every penny if you work with hats
These cutters work like no other. Simply fantastic. I recommend using a new blade edge every two hats or so to ensure a perfect edge. Occasionally I’ll need to use coarse sandpaper to level down an area that wasn’t perfectly straight, due to human error. But usually just a light sanding to restore the fuzziness and slight bevel of a normal hat edge is all it takes. These aren’t cheap, but they’re worth every penny.

Be prepared to take it apart
A good device BUT it came improperly assembled. I had to take it apart and remount the blade so it would retract.
