Addiction Essentials: The Go-To Guide for Clinicians and Patients (Go-To Guides)
Because I have a relative who is an alcoholic, I have read several books and articles on addiction. This short overview covers topics that are otherwise spread among many other sources. The book is well written, and it is easy to read only the chapters of prime interest. I recommend, however, reading the entire work, especially if this is the first work on addiction you have found. The author is up-to-date on current brain and pharmacology research. He is very good at describing such research for the lay person. There are more in depth surveys available, e.g, the same author's "The Science of Addiction: From Neurobiology to Treatment:" but the Go-To Guide will answer most readers' initial questions. The only "problem" with the work is the wide audience that it attempts to reach. The sections for clinicians helped me understand methods used in rehab, but I skimmed over much of the detailed clinical how-to sections. Yes, I did recommend the book to my addicted relative, and, no, she did not choose to read it.

Ths book is a sophmoric rehash of Erickson's earlier books, both of which were excellent.
This book was too general to be informative. The content included nothing new. I highly recommend Erickson's 2 immediately preceding books that are informative and cutting edge. This book seems to be an attempt on the author's part to capitalize on his previous acclaim and make some quick money. What a disappointment. .I returned it.I wish I had read this review before I ordered it.

It's 2016, people!
Eh. Most addiction books I've read are desperately out of date. Whats up with that?!

BASIC BOOK
Too little information. If you already have some knowledge about addiction and want something more profound, go to another book.
