As a young boy, Charles Darwin hated school and was often scolded forconducting “useless” experiments. Yet his passion for the natural world was so strong that he suffered through terrible seasickness during his five-year voyage aboard The Beagle. Darwin collected new creatures from the coasts of Africa, South America, and the Galapagos Islands, and expanded his groundbreaking ideas that would change people's understanding of the natural world. About 100 illustrations and a clear, exciting text will make Darwin and his theory of evolution an exciting discovery for every young reader. Review: Great for elementary school and adults! - I LOVE this book! Last year when everyone was having Lincoln's 200th birthday celebrations, I decided to go into my 2nd graders classroom to let them know that another great man - Charles Darwin - was born on the exact same day! It was his 200th birthday too and I thought he deserved some credit. This was a great quick read on Darwin's life with some pictures in it too. I of course brought in "Species" and some other Darwin books, but I bought two extra copies of this book to donate to the classroom and the library. It's a perfect chapter book biography for the elementary kids, but like I said, it was a nice short read for me too! I look forward to reading and sharing with my kids the other "Who Was" books in the series. Review: ❤️❤️great read!! - Great read, very interesting! I never knew much about Darwin snd this book was eye opening. So much info in the book!!

Nice book for an 8 year old
Love these books. My son, who is 9 has been reading them for a little over a year now and this book is wonderful. I must say that this one is not one of his favorites. He is a history junkey, lol. He so far seems to love the Jackie Robinson, Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Robert E Lee, What is the world series the best as a 8 and 9 year old. I also read these to him in the evenings and I really enjoy them as a 40 year old father. I have learned so much from them as well. Sometimes I read them before or after my son in order to have an educated discussion with him about the subject of the book. I really also get alot out of them as well.

Great Book!!
My 8-year-old son Ben wrote this review: I love this book! I learned who Charles Darwin was. He created the theory of evolution with his discoveries. He was a very seasick passenger who sailed around the world. He loved animals. Read this great book about this great man to learn more about him. This is the best "Who Was" book ever. He is the best scientist of his time. Please buy this book. It is one of the best. You will never stop reading till the end of this book then you read it again. It also has great pictures too! I loved it. You will love it too! Now I love science and I learned about the changing of animals and humans. I learned a lot! He found a lot of stuff. He was friends with Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker, Thomas Henry Huxley, and Sir Charles Lyell. I also love other "Who Was" books. It makes me feel like I'm there. Darwin wrote two books.

Big help to start explaining evolution
A classmate of our kindergartner told him that people used to be apes. Where is a parent to begin? This book was a big help. We had to repeat the ideas and break them down some more, but he seems to have understood the general idea of adaptation and survival of the fittest. We read it as a chapter book at bedtime. Still more to learn, of course, but a great start. He's now writing/illustrating his own book about evolution...as you do.

Easy Read
My son needed a book for a Biography Report at school. His teacher thought this one was a bit too easy of a read for him (he's 10), so he read another along with it. But, as a series, the "Who Was" Books are great quick reads that give One the basic information on certain famous people.

I lived at Darwin for three months.
When I stayed at Darwin (Northern Territory, Australia) I didn't noticed where this city name came from. But my close Russian scientist informed me this city name came after Charles Darwin, who suggested the theory of the origin of species. I agreed part of this because he investigate the practical progress of birds and other sea fished and others. I was impressed his concentrated strong pursuit of his effort during his life time. I began to respect him as a desirable all his effort to find our truth of human society. So, I recommended this book to many people and talked his effort whenever I have a chance to have conversation around me. I think that this is a guide guide for the younger generations under the science and social educations.

HQ books are great
I love all the HQ books and so does my 8 year old daughter. Kids like to know things and many school systems are not teaching facts and history in the way they should. All the basics are in the books along with a lot of interesting additions done in a way that is not boring at all and I learn things too.
