Welding For Dummies Paperback – October 4, 2010

Reasonably priced. Easy to use. I’ve been welding for over 40 years (self taught); this is an invaluable reference for Joining metal via MIG, TIG, SMAW (stick AC/DC), brazing & oxy/fuel gas cutting (I use propane). Author prefers acetylene. I refuse to bring a fuel gas like acetylene into my garage because it has a range of flammability between 2 percent and 100 percent and can auto ignite at pressures in the hose above 15 psig.

We purchased this book for our son, who is interested in welding. The Welding for Dummies book is on every list of recommended books we researched. Our son read it cover to cover and would like to say that the glossary in the back in very valuable. It is very detailed and a great resource for a beginner.

It was very well-written by an obviously experienced welder. There was a lot of space dedicated to acetylene cutting and welding that I did not expect but is there in case it is needed. The section regarding plasma cutting was very beneficial. I appreciated the stress on safety.

Welding For Dummies what a Thriller!! Ok so I’m reading this thing thinking ok where is the plot twist! I’m on the crapper dropping the little welders off to the strip pit and BAM, I pinched one in half after reading about rod sizes!!!! Don’t get me wrong I don’t stick my clean rod in a brown rusted hole, but out of the blue we jump into rod sizes!!! Well after I cool down from that, I start on grinding! Like what is this a smut novel? I thought I was in for a thriller, but wait it does get better!! So as I said before I won’t stick my clean rod in a brown rusted hole, so they want me grind this hole first. Now wait a minute I’m not into this bi-welding fornication! Where is the clean metal stick welding like God intended? As if back door welding isn’t enough the book takes another kinky twist by adding an automatic rod feeder? Like my stick welding isn’t big enough, we have to have MIG welding? Well after this I’m putting on my welding shield because I’m getting as red as new slag! All in all I give this five stars!!

Are you a dummy? Its a great book I bought it for an incarcerated friend who wants to get into the trade, this is a great way to plant the seed of interest. If you are sending a book to an incarcerated individual make sure you check that it is a GIFT so that the mailroom at the facility can have all of the paperwork needed. You don't need to have it wrapped though.

It has a lot of information on Safety & that is good. I do flux core arc welding; no gas needed for shielding and is an easy for hobby & professional as well. Should be covered in a book like this.

I knew that there had been many advancements in welding technology and I wanted to get an understanding of the currently available welding technologies, including Stick, Tig, Mig, and plasma arc cutting. I saw so many choices on the market and I had no idea what to buy to set up a very simple basic welding capability for occasional light weight welds. The book does a great job of explaining each of the available welding technologies, explaining how to weld different kinds of metals, safety, tips on each kind of welding, and even what basic tools you need to buy to set up a basic welding capability.I have read several "for DUMMIES" books. They are all a great and very informative read and this book lives up to the tradition.

After looking at multiple intro books, I picked the dummies book because it has clear info on the exact issue I was struggling with in the online sample chapter. My first choice would be a class at the local community college but COVID. This book is helping me get through the learning curve without treating me like I'm an idiot.

Great information for someone wanting to learn.

Ich selbst studiere zurzeit Werkstofftechnik im Master und habe auch als Fach Schweißtechnik. Als Überblick über dieses Thema ist dieses Buch sehr gut. Das verwendete Englisch ist angenehm und man lernt gleichzeitig auch die entsprechenden Vokabeln.

Le livre est écrit en anglais donc je vais commenter en anglais: It told me everything I needs to know about TIG, MIG and stick welding. It is suitable for a complete beginner, and gives advice on what to buy. It is very clear about safety. It also includes a number of practical welding projects. Me.. I just wanted to make a garden gate. Just ine downside, it's far too wordy. It could have bern two thirds as long and said more. But still I found it very valuable. Just annoying to read in some parts.

As a complete novice to welding found this book very informative and all topics well written and easy to understand. Would recommend it for anyone beginning to weld as a hobby.
