and recommend it highly
I help maintain a scientific cluster computing facilty which relies on a mysql database. Before joining this project I had almost no direct experiencewriting SQL, but had done 30 years of other kinds of programming. I found the book pitched at just the right level for me, and recommend it highly.

Great Book
This book gets to the point. It also points out differences in the old SQL and new SQL. This is a great tool for beginners and moderate SQL users.

Skip SQL for beginners books...
The book is excellent, way better than the myriad of SQL "For beginners" books out there, skip all of those as you can find that stuff by googling "SQL help." There are a number of Free SQL training sites as well, but when you need to do something more than a simple query, this is a great reference. Now be aware as with most "for dummies" books the first section of the book is informational but a waste of time for someone trying to get something done. When you do get to the meat of the book (I use mine a reference only) the segments are quick and easy. Very easy to find what you are looking for. I already had a database (for work) and didn't need to know how to build a database. But if you want to build a database, that first section may be helpful. Page 137 is where I started and gained a quick understanding of how to pull and manipulate data. Now I consider myself fairly well versed because of this reference book.

Good book, but not for newbies
I have been fixing a Access 2010 project, and was having a tough time with the SQL we were using for it. So my boss decided to purchase this book for me to help me out.It is not for pure beginners, but if you have a small understanding of SQL or another language, than it should not be too hard for you to read and get some good information about SQL from

Good if you're looking for a programming guide for writing procedures, etc.; not really for ad-hoc query writing.
It's not that it's a "bad" book, but it isn't what I would expect from a "for Dummies" book. I was looking for something that would help me writing ad-hoc queries using SQL Developer for quick data analysis. Unfortunately, it's more a book for writing procedures, etc. While I don't dispute it's useful for that, b/c of the procedure focus, it doesn't have a lot of information specific to individual commands. I've been able to ferret out some information, but it's an effort to find what I'm looking for. Oh well. I'll probably stick to "trial & error" in most cases.

Il mio primo e-book
Ho voluto provare come prima esperienza di lettura attraverso gli e-book un libro tecnico. Facile da consultare, pratico e -pur essendo in inglese - chiaro nei concetti e nei contenuti.

You don't have to be a dummy to read this informative book
This is an easy to read book. The information is given in bite size chunks and you progress through the book in a seamless and fluid manner. I recommend this book to the beginner through to the novice. If you only wish to dip your toe into the sea of SQL then this is the book to do just that.
