Poor Publisher Support & More Work Than Should Be Necessary
It's difficult to review this book because the publisher, Bloomsbury, seems to have poor customer support. The support files available on Bloomsbury's site are easily accessible but are incomplete. Chapter 6's support file is completely missing. I tried to email Bloomsbury's customer service and the reply I got redirected me to their distribution partner to inquire about orders. ???! The person did not seem to have read my email at all.I have no idea if there's supposed to be files for items, like seating, lighting, etc, but the book specifically and consistently gives instructions like open the file for "the yellow car." It's difficult to follow the exercises without the actual photos, as used in the book, to use because photos that you find online are problem to find, like top views of beds, and difficult to fit the outlines. Again, this is where the publisher should be able to answer these questions. The book doesn't specify what files are available, only that there are ones to download.I'm grateful that the author took wrote this book because there is a great need for it. There's no other book about PS that I know of that is aimed at the interior design profession, even though PS is very useful for visualization, to alter photos of existing spaces, and refine renderings. For that alone, I'm giving it 3 stars but barely. I really would like to give it more stars. I am not a newbie at PhotoShop. Yet I'm not an intermediate user. The book could use more detailed instruction. The floor plan, exercise 1, was tough because there is no line closing off the bottom edge of the front porch and at room thresholds, i.e. floor finish lines. You need boundaries to fill. So, I had to use the polygonal lasso tool, add to selection, subtract from selection, and do a lot of extra work that was not included in the instructions. Exercise 2, the elevation, is when I decided to email the publisher. The lighting outlines are just too specific a shape to not have an image provided as a support file.
