Lovely tool
I love this tool. I don't understand the negative reviews. It gets plenty hot very quickly and makes quick work of burning through wood and plastic making it super useful. The possibilities are endless. I make sure to wipe it clean while using to keep the debris off using a thick cloth. Be careful not to burn yourself!

It gets very hot
Gets very hot! If you are not careful you can get burnt on the barrel. Otherwise it performed well. I used it to cut a stencil on window film. It turned out so well my son thought I had a new door installed! Looking forward to experimenting with all the other functions.

A great replacement for my old pen.
I bought this tool after my previous one broke. Walnut Hollow Creative Versa Tool with Versa-Temp Temperature ControlMy old one was a little nicer, but this one still completely suits my needs.Old one: had a silicone handle grip that kept my fingers from getting too hot. This one: Sometimes the handle gets a bit too hot for my hands, and the grip is not nearly as comfortable as my old silicone handle.Old one: Had a temperature dial (could adjust temperature low-med-high). I often bumped the dial and accidentally turned the heat up or down without noticing (until too late). This one: Has no temp dial; only on and off. I don't mind this in the least! I am much more careful with my technique, and I like that I'm not bumping the dial all the timeThe reason I chose this one as a replacement: It comes with my favorite point! The small flow point is awesome and it did not come with my old kit.I would recommend this pen as a great basic wood burning pen.

Great Value due to Versatility
I had a wood burning tool many years ago that made it a chore because it took so long. I realize now that it's because of the low wattage of that tool. When I started looking for something to cut stencils out of mylar I wanted a tool with the versatility to do more than one task. This one seemed like it would fit the bill.I pulled it out for the first time two nights ago, and cut out three large stencils to use with my Gelli Plates for making gel prints. I thought the craft knife blade would be the tip to go with, but it was incredibly slow work. I switched to the thinnest brass tip that came with the set and it went very well after that. The point of the brass tip did curve a bit from the heat, but it doesn't affect the job at all. My one "complaint" is that you have to hold the tool near the cord, which makes it pretty far from the tip. That hinders precision somewhat, so I picked up a pair of welder's gloves from Amazon today that look like they will give the protection needed to hold the tool a bit closer to the tip. There are some pretty flexible gloves from the look of them that should do what is needed without being clumsy. I found a pair here for $11.05.I'm very pleased with the tool for stencil cutting. It would be nice if there were an indicator light that let you know when the tip reached optimal temp, but I'm sure I'll learn the time it takes to fully heat up after a few uses.I've already recommended this to a number of people through an online art group, and unless some major flaw shows up in the next few months, I will continue to do so.

Useful, but not intended for fabric or cutting paracord
I bought this tool to cut synthetic materials, primarily nylon fabric, to keep it from fraying. I also wanted to use it for cutting nylon cordage. The first tool I got wouldn't get hot enough to cut thin cloth or paracord. Walnut Hollow kindly sent me a replacement. The replacement will cut and melt the edges of nylon cloth if I cut slowly. It won't cut paracord, but the barrel of the heating element gets hot to melt and seal the ends of paracord that I've already cut with a knife or scissors. I do find this one useful, but still not a proper hot knife, which is part of the description.

Cuts Sunbrella with blunt tool, not exacto-style blade.
Gets hot enough to do what it claims it will do. However, to cut Sunbrella or other polyester outdoor fabrics don't use the exacto- style blade--instead the blunt tip with a metal straight edge that comes installed on the knife. Go slow and it works really well.

Great tool for the price!
Excellent tool, easy to use and heats up quickly. You need some insulated pliers to unscrew the tips if you want to change them when they are hot- but it is easy. We even used it indoors without much of a "burn smell" to it at all. We made nice gifts for friends and family with this tool. Just take it slow and don't rush the process- your project will turn out better if you remember "slow and steady wins the race."

Excellent value.
I had been trying to do woodburning with a cheap soldering iron I have, and it wasn't really working out. Amazing difference when I tried a proper woodburner. This woodburner works really nicely, and for the price, I have no complaints. Also comes with a soldering tip, if you want to use it to solder.

Great tool for cutting through plastic!
I bought this to make bin cages for my hamsters. Used the tool to cut holes in the plastic for the wire mesh. Worked like a charm! It melted right through the plastic and the plastic didn't crack at all. Made the job so much easier! I've used it to make five cages so far and it still works great. Would highly recommend!
