Awesome products
Must have for any solar contractor, we recommend that you also purchase the PV studio software, it will save you hours on your design. Tech Support is,the best, supper quick response even after hours.

Good. Expensive. Version mix up.
This worked well to assess shading & solar exposure for building sites. I was able to take pictures of it and compare sites later. I had trouble tracing the shading using the supplied white marker under the dome because the space to work under the dome is tight. This might take practice. The case is quite nice and everything fits, including the tripod. It works best under an overcast sky or just after sunset or before sunrise. Beats the heck out of guesswork or spending a year collecting data! It comes with 4 or 5 of each of the most common latitude charts and a couple of angle measurement charts. I can't vouch for accuracy, but my guess is that it is adequate. For the price ($299) it should be brushed aluminum instead of plastic, have a nice oil-damped level, a better compass, a nice soft cloth bag for the key component - the reflective dome, and a standard tripod mount. But, it is a unique, useful and clever product, possibly patented. I know of nothing else comparable for the job. If the company is making a killing on it - great. That's capitalism. I ordered the version with the tripod for $40 extra. You need this or something comparable (a beanbag?) to take photos. I received one without the tripod. I don't know who mixed up the order: Amazon or the seller, 9G Health Foods. Amazon offered no option except to return it to them, so I called 9G Health Foods and they shipped me the tripod at no charge with 2-day delivery same as Amazon prime. Excellent service on their part. If I were ordering today, I might order it direct from the manufacturer's web site, (same price when I looked), pay for shipping, and maybe avoided the mix up. But, thanks to free shipping from Amazon prime and good service from the seller, it worked out better this way even with the mix up.

I'm very satisfied with the article but on Amazon website it doesn't have the option to choose the sunpath diagrams for southern hemisphere although the Solar Pathfinder own webpage has the selection of diagrams.

The Solar Pathfinder works well to give shading data for potential solar PV sites. Unfortunately, unless you want to spend a lot of time doing calculations manually, you will have to purchase the software for the machine at an extra cost. This came as a bit of a surprise. There is a trial version of the software available for free which helps somewhat. If you elect to use the software be prepared to have a lot of detail regarding roof size, solar panel selection etc. as the software requires this information to perform the calculations. Having said this if you are going to install a solar PV system this tool is invaluable to address shading issues with the site.
