I've found myself scarfing down a 7-11 sandwich and a Gatorade between gigs - I'd much rather enjoy a couple of these (and at $1
Dense and satisfying, they get the job done. They also taste ok, but very different from what I was expecting. As a musician, I've found myself scarfing down a 7-11 sandwich and a Gatorade between gigs - I'd much rather enjoy a couple of these (and at $1.33 apiece, it would also be cheaper). The texture is nothing like Cliff, Quest, or Luna bars... it's more dry. Crumbly. I don't have much experience with survival food, but I don't think the aforementioned are really that. This is not a protein bar, and for energy/survival that makes sense. I've tried to use Cliff bars as meal replacements rushing from gig to gig, and they don't do the trick. These though, they are much better. They don't taste as much like candy, but they certainly don't taste bad, and they don't leave an aftertaste like some other bars. Somewhere between a cookie and a cracker, with a light fruit flavor that doesn't seem artificial, and which is only just strong enough to give you the idea of the fruit. If you're like me, and not really intending to use them as an emergency food, I think they're great and much better than 'protein bars' for just supplemental energy during a busy day. They last a really long time (5 years from inception, or 4+ from the time you get them - still pretty incredible). They don't taste bad, like a 7-11 sandwich can, they're not expensive if you compare the calorie content to say, fast food (for example, a McChicken contains 360 calories and costs $1.30... and while I think it tastes good, it can be somewhat inconvenient with the lettuce and mayo to spill, and you have to find a McDonalds, and so on... versus a Millennium Bar in your pocket, and done. Plus, the calories are divided up differently (eg, not estimated from mayonnaise, or protein heavy), and without going into the science of it, such that you feel better after the Millennium Bar). The one thing, which has nothing to do with the quality of the product, that I was mildly disappointed about was this: The picture clearly depicts a cherry flavor. I got 6 of 6 different flavors, but none of them was cherry. I understand this. 36 divides by 6 easily, and if you have 9 or 10 flavors, what do you do? I actually appreciate the fact that I got an even distribution of flavors, but if there's anything at all I would change it would be the flavors, not because they're bad, but because I wanted to try the ones in the picture... no big deal, but be aware.

Excellent Food Bars for Emergencies
I ordered these for our emergency car kits as well as our 72-hour Bug out Bags. Our family eats primarily a raw vegan diet, but after realizing that in an emergency it would be very difficult to find fresh raw food, I ultimately decided to use these bars for our kits. Also a bar is easier to eat then boiling water for dehydrated food. The fact that these bars last for 5 years and can withstand the heat and cold of the car was very appealing. These are not going to be the healthiest type of foods, but they do provide essential calories in emergency situations. I do not intend to eat them unless there is an emergency because of my personal diet. I have ordered the Millennium bars a number of times as we have built out our emergency bags. We have younger children. One day I found that most of the bars were missing from our 72-hour kits. This became an opportunity to explain to our children why we have 72-hour kits and of the importance of food being in the kits in times of emergencies. Consequently, I can report that our children really enjoyed the bars. Recently we were travelling and they became hungry so we decided to see how satisfied they would be just eating the bars. In a period of 8 hours they had 3 each and really like them. I really like how well packaged these bars are, in single meal sizes, and that there are different flavors. I have tried Mainstay Food rations, but found they were not properly sealed and had to return them. We also have some Datrix food ration bars which are probably on the same order as these, but are in a single brick for the day. I prefer the individual sealed portions, but that is just a personal preference. These are excellent food ration bars for emergencies. If I were hiking I would choose healthier bars to eat, but those types of bars don't last that long especially with the hot and cold temperatures in the car. That is why these are perfect in a car emergency bag.

convenient and long lasting.
I find the form factor of these much more convenient than similar "lifeboat ration" products. They are similar in that they are fairly hard, relatively tasteless, and will keep you going in a dire emergency rather than being something you would use as a meal replacement by choice. They have a five year shelf life and can be safely left in your vehicle without worrying about damage from temperature extremes (although when kept in your vehicle in the heat, there will be a somewhat plasticky off note imparted to the bar.) I have occasionally used them when my blood sugar was plunging, instead of going to a drive through. They stop the shakes from low blood sugar, and will keep you going in an emergency. Having each meal replacement bar separately packaged is more convenient than the larger square blocks that have 2 or 3 days' rations in a single package - those open packages need to be eaten within a week or so, so if you only need a single meal, there can be wastage, which these bars avoid. They are slightly larger than a regular flattish candy bar, but have disaster proof packaging. They are handy for vehicles, bugout bags, and travel bags - I always keep a few in my flight bag in case of protracted delays without access to food. You will want to have some water or other liquid handy, otherwise your throat will stick together. Also, be sure to keep a knife or multitool with your stash, or you'll never get through the packaging! To make sure you have nutrition on the go or in an emergency, these really are about the best option I have tried in this class.

Exactly as promised and perfect for what they are intended
These are great for their intended purpose. A single bar prevents hunger for a few hours certainly. Obviously you would not want to live off of these for more than a few days in an emergency situation. You could pair the bars with a decent multivitamin and stretch that out a little. The bars are inexpensive when compared to similar products and seem like they would probably keep beyond the promised 5 years. Now, the texture is very odd. It is very similar to a graham cracker pie crust but much thicker. It does not make you thirsty as you would expect when you take your first bit. It is very crumbly so expect to lose a little that you have to brush off of your shirt. I expect with the consistency, it could be mixed with water and make a porridge. the bars come in different flavors but have just enough flavor to notice it has a flavor but not enough for it to matter which flavor you choose.

Great emergency/camping food
I have supply of Mainstay bars that are coming to the end of their shelf life in a few months. I opened one package and shared it with my kids. My 13 year old said it was okay. My 3 year old tried it and walked away. I searched for another option and found these. I bought a smaller package first. We opened a few flavors to try. My kids will eat them (a few reviews said that they were too hard to bite into but my 3 year old had no problem eating these). I had to hide them from my 13 year old who has sensory issues. The flavors are mild and sweet, but a little bit dry. The big thing is my kids will eat them. I put some in our BOB and some mixed in with some stored dehydrated food to supplement that for emergencies. I will throw out the Mainstay bars in a few months, but these will be eaten before their expiration date. I bought some more. The first batch came from Amazon and was prime shipping eligible. I received all of the flavors. I bought two more batches which did not come through Amazon. The package was damaged and had only 66 bars. I blame USPS for that, not the seller. It contained raspberry, blueberry, apricot, vanilla, orange and cherry flavors - there were no coconut or lemon flavors. Since I am reviewing the product and not the seller, I am leaving my 5 star rating. Just be aware that if you don't buy from Amazon, you may not get all of the flavors.

Great tasting, good price.
The reason to buy these bars and not candy bars is simple. These have a 5 year shelf life and have vitamins and minerals that you will need in an emergency situation. Candy bars are solid sugar. These have other things in them. The reason to buy these bars and not the 3600 calorie bars for much cheaper is once you open the 3600 calorie bar you have to consume the whole thing because it can not be resealed. The clock is ticking for freshness once the bar is open. These bars come in individually wrapped 400 calorie bar. These are for emergencies only. You can not live on these bars for any length of time but they will serve as a food source in the short term. I have tried a lot of these bars and these are the best I have had so far. No complaints and I will be getting another case as soon as the cash becomes available. I want to have at least 100 of these for my family to have access too. That would be 1200 calories for 9 days if necessary. Not something I would like to do but if there is an emergency situation of that magnitude you would be happy to have them.

They have a sturdy packaging that can take the abuse of being tossed ...
I stock these in vehicles and get-home bags. They are energy-dense, don't need prep time or tools. They have a sturdy packaging that can take the abuse of being tossed around in a scramble pack. And they are supposedly stable for five years even in the temperature swings a car goes through. The oldest I've tried was maybe 18-months, still tasty. Easier to portion out than the 3600-calorie Mainstay bricks I also like. As for taste - pretty decent and I like the variety. Like with anything folks would get tired of it pretty quickly if these were the only food. For the cost, a win. Similar price per calorie as a Snickers bar. If I had to choose between a candy bar and these after they had both been sitting in the trunk fro a couple years, no contest. These win. EDIT: Seller keeps sending nag emails 'please review my product' There goes a star for service fail. Send an apology and fix your spam, I'll put this back the way I had it.

to my surprise, these are actually quite good
Ummm, like everything, they have gone up in price. They were 47, now they are 57. At least this batch doesn't seem to include vanilla flavor; NONE of the ppl I shared one with liked them, the vanilla is terrible!! First, to my surprise, all the rest are actually quite good; good enough that I need to order more. I was expecting another dry almost tasteless bar. These are not only tasty, but also they do not dry your mouth out. At least 50% of taste is from the smell, and these do smell like the fruit they represent; real fruit, not the fake odor much of todays snack items reek of. I suspect that this also why your salivary glands seem to go into overdrive; kind of like when you smell any good food and are hungry. If I have any complaint it is that these are probably not what an overweight, old man should be snacking on; but I can't help it, they really are good and worth getting for emergencies or just 'cause they are good.
