Tabus Reborn Expanded edition of the Detroit funk bands 1978 second album, includes the singles "Lovin Just You" and "Wake Up and Be Somebody" along with additional remixes and alternate versions, packaged in a sumptuous case-bound book with new liner notes and lyrics. Review: A Brilliant Journey - Brainstorm’s sophomore album, “Journey To The Light” was released in 1978 on Tabu Records label as the Disco craze was in full swing. Having scored a major across the board hit “Lovin’ You Is Really My Game” off their debut album “Stormin’”, Brainstorm had the difficult task of following up such a solid debut. “Journey To The Light” more then delivers. Musically, it is far richer and more sophisticated then “Stormin’”. If “Stormin’” was more of a Dance/Funk album, “Journey To The Light” can not be pigeonholed into any category. This set is a highly sophisticated slice of Jazzy Classy R&B. And this is what might have sunk this brilliant album. Fans who were expecting more breezy Disco like “Lovin’ You Is Really My Game” would find themselves stunned to listen to this album. If any one actually bough it. And most people did not. The album made a very minimal impact, if any. And that is a shame. Killer jazzy R&B grooves like “We’re On Our Way Home”, “Every Time I See You I Go Wild”, “Positive Thinking” and the title track have an almost ethereal feel to them. These are in no way Dance songs but they sure will sound good when the volume is cranked up. The aforementioned tracks sound better and better with repeated listens and that is the theme of the entire album. It warrants repeated listening and should be appreciated as one brilliant whole as opposed to the sum of its parts like “Stormin’”. BRAINSTORM members were superb musicians and BRAINSTORM was very much a self contained band. Listen to the albums mid tempo songs. “If Ever You Need To Cry” will give you chills with Belita Woods’ stunning vocals and the band’s musicianship skills. “Loving Just You” is another mid tempo groove, while “Brand New Day” has that uplifting positive quality to it that will make you smile and want to move at the same time. It is a shame that this album did not produce any radio hits. Had Tabu Records been able to further promote “Journey To The Light”, perhaps the album would have received the support and attention it deserved. Huge heartfelt thanks must be given to Tabu Records for re-mastering this long out of print jewel. This re-master has amazing sound and the packaging is simply gorgeous, the liner notes are fascinating and informative and there are 3 Bonus tracks here. One of these Bonus tracks being “The Visitor”, a jazzy instrumental gem that did not initially appear on the original album. “We’re On Our Way Home” is available here in its rare 12” Version. “Loving Just You” is also available in its Single Version. The album’s stunning original album cover art front and back is preserved as well. A must have for any Disco/R&B lover and collector. Review: Amazing - If your a fan of disco/jazz fusion you will enjoy this immensely. The orchestration in this set of songs is simply mind blowing. This is clear in songs like "Brand New Day" and "Were On Our Way Home". The strings and bass throughout the album will reel you in. The king of this album, however...is the title track. Sinuous, urgent and delightful, "Journey to the Light" is a fine song. Its a shame this album is overlooked. The only complaint is that for me "Every Time I See You, I Go Wild!" drags a bit. But that is a minor squabble, get this album in any format if you can.

Journey to Light by Brainstorm
I love this music because it brings back many precious memories for me, at a time when life was not as complicated for me as it is today. If you are an old head music lover of the 70's and 80's I would highly recommend this CD for you and I hope that you enjoy listening to the music as much as I do and I hope that it soothes you as it does for me.

... late 70s as a teenager I danced to the awesome disco track "Lovin' is Really My Game"
Back in the late 70s as a teenager I danced to the awesome disco track "Lovin' is Really My Game". I managed to find a copy on 12inch after traipsing around my local record stores on a wet Saturday morning. A truly iconic anthem I expected to hear more from Brainstorm- whoever he/she/they were-I waited and waited ... but nothing! Back in the day living out in the sticks it was almost impossible to find out any info about niche/obscure bands/records/labels. All we had was Blues & Soul, Radio 1, local commercial radio and Radio Luxembourg- we were at the mercy of a handful radio D.J's and music journo's. Fast forward 30 years and the birth of the internet saw online retailers like Amazon and platforms such as YouTube spring up enabling fans to connect and share info/news/video performances/music files that would have forever remained unknown/lost forever. I discovered Brainstorm were indeed a bona fide band and not just a group of studio session men. Their albums are excellent- the quality of material is strong- musicianship is A+ as are the vocals. The production and mastering is fantastic- better than some current releases. The repackaging is impressive too- the best I have seen. I'm so glad that although it took the best part of 40 years I was eventually able to discover who Brainstorm were and to access their complete back catalogue. The band deserved far greater commercial success and wider recognition. If you've only ever heard their "one hit wonder" disco classic then you will be pleasantly surprised at how funky soulful and jazzy this album is. At times Brainstorm remind me of The Brand New Heavies- the music really is fantastic. So pleased I bought this album. Time to buy their 3rd and final album also now available. Awesome!
