Today's Hispanic generation does not always handle the Spanish language as its vernacular. Many a time, major confusion occurs within Hispanic families because of the lack of bilingual skills. In the spiritist community, this language barrier has all too often caused potential mediums to either continue being handicapped in their development or choose another path that may lead to spiritual pitfalls. Additionally, the English-speaking community is fertile ground for new mediums from this cultural group. Many of the alleged translations of prayer books, particularly those of Allan Kardec, are a sham. You cannot translate them literally word for word. It must be translated in context of the cultural idea being presented. In this, whoever attempted the translations has slapped the public in the face with a horrid, nonsensical excuse for print. At some time, there will have to be a concerted effort to translate these works officially on paper. Up to now, it is done word of mouth, which leaves a lot to be desired when attending a misa (seance). Review: superb - Great read, very detailed and user friendly, a must have book for spiritists developing their gift. Also informative for those with curiosity. Review: Worth the read, good book about Espiritismo - I don’t tend to write reviews but I had to for this book or music... First of all, I received this and read it the two days it arrived. Growing up as a Spiritualist, I learned a lot from reading this book about different religions. I feel like it is a good start for someone who is getting started on Espiritismo. Not only does this book tell you in plain English was Spiritism is and how it is practiced, more importantly, it tells you what Spiritism is not! I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Spiritism in Latino practices. I will mostly be going to use this book for prayers. . This book doesn't give you any practical instructions or ritual work. Don't do ritual work if you don't know or understand!! Find someone or another book to learn from. Espiritismo shares many of its fundamental concepts with 19th century Spiritualism as was practiced in the United States and Europe. Several books on mediumship and spiritual practices are available about the Caribbean and Latin America ritual work here on desertcart.

I recommend this book for who are interested in this form ...
The book is very detailed in spiritualism practiced in Cuba (which has a little mixture of Palo and Santeria elements) and Puerto Rico ( Focuses a little more on personal guides). I recommend this book for who are interested in this form of spiritualism and what to expect in a Session Espiritista . The only thing I found I didn't agree with was one does not need a initiate of Yemoja to get rid of the contents in the palangana. Or perhaps describe more distinction between the two types. Overall Its a very good read.

A ray of light through the darkness
As a young bilingual individual, developing within this blessed camp, I have to say that this text is gold, it is a living and breathing book, a conscious ray of Light, warm and true. It feels like you are talking face to face with an elder in this Spiritist tradition, relaying to you priceless tidbits, hints, information, and empowerments to help in your development. I'll say this, if you don't have a stable teacher, before really starting off this practice, buy this book, get in contact with its author who is a genuinely beautiful person, and see where it goes from there. Don't let those who don't know mislead you, this is Spiritism, in the same way that Roman Catholicism or Pentacostalism, are still part of the same Meta-label of Christianity. This is a work of love, of faith, hope, and charity, this is contemplative work, if you are looking for brujeria manipulating suffering and intranquil souls, and guaranteeing a similar fate for yourself, then this might not be the book for you (I would still recommend it) if you are looking for an initiatory text for entering an appropriate mental space for these enriching and empowering Practices then get yourself this text. If you are looking for an intimate look into this world then look no further. Bendicion!

Good Start for Beginnners
I don’t tend to write reviews but I had to for this book! First of all I received this and read it the same day it arrived. Growing up in a Spiritualist Household, I learned a lot reading this book and I feel like it is a GREAT start for someone who is getting started on Espiritismo. The book felt like the author was in the same room talking to me and teaching me. I wish the book was much larger and more detailed for those who already are a bit more experienced in the path. Either way, this is a MUST HAVE especially if your dominant language is English— If this is the case, this should be sitting right next to your Boveda Espiritual! The translations to the prayers are spot on and I think reads better to the Prayers in Spanish. I am happy with my purchase and adding it to my collection! If you are thinking about buying this, just do it! Thank you to the Author for putting out this wonderful book— I look forward to reading the next! Luz y Bendiciones!

Informative
This is a great starter book for mediums. Especially, those familiar with misas. It gives you a deeper understanding of how it all works. As well as, why we do what we do. It was written for the everyday person to understand and has some added humor. I hope he continues to write about the spiritual world. Blessings!

Great Read
This book a great deal of gems and clarification. I appreciate the author taking the time to educate on this topic. This is of my opinion, and it will take yourself to figure out what fruits of the book to eat.

A Gift to Us
This is a wonderful contribution to the very small selection of written work on espiritismo. This is the genuine article written by a medium of the old school with decades of experience. Mr. Guevara's books are a true gift for the lone developing medium.
