Hayward SPX0740BA Key, Cover and Handle Replacement for Multiport Valves

I identified what parts were required to make the repair to improve handle operation and make a more positive seal between stations. I gave up on the rebuild and went for a SPX0740BA Key, Cover and Handle Replacement for Multiport Valves. A bit of clean up required on the valve base after removal, the install was straight forward (exact steps, in reverse, of the removal process).

Dropped right in and fit perfectly. Replaced the old worn out valve with the correct original manufacturer part.

My original multi-port valve began to lose some of its spring tension and also became more difficult to turn. As it is not a part that gets a lot of usage, it might be the exposure to the NJ winters that caused it to fail. This Key, Cover and Handle assembly is the perfect DIY replacement. I timed the replacement and it literally took 15 minutes from start to finish. It comes with all gaskets and necessary O-rings in place. You do need to keep the 8 screws and nuts from the existing valve as it does not come with any hardware. After replacement, the key turns smoothly and is perfectly watertight. Highly recommended to anyone who needs to have this part replaced to do it yourself and save the Pool service charges to have it done.

This item was a perfect match to the original. It was a 10 minute replacement job. It does not come with o-ring lubricant, so you will need that when you do the replacement.

The Hayward SPX0740BA is a good replacement part, but make sure that you use the recommended gasket lubricant. Also, I recommend that you save your old Hayward SPX0740BA part, because Amazon.com sells replacement gaskets for it. UV rays from our sun just cause degradation of many things, such as swimming pool parts. This way, if the sun's UV rays chews up your new Hayward SPX0740BA, you can put the old one back on with some new gaskets installed with some recommended premium swimming pool gasket grease, also available at Amazon.com.

Very easy installation. Received package from Amazon and 15 minutes later had replaced old part with new! Fit perfectly in my "Hayward SP0740 DE 2" Selecta-Flo Valve". Definitely easier than the rebuild and comes with cover "O" ring and "Spider" gasket.

This was the answer to my valve problems. Take my word for it: don't waste your time with a new spider gasket, new spring, handle gasket, etc. I have replaced all those, plus the cover (cracked over the winter) and a couple of handles, washers, and anything else I could replace. I have replaced the spider gasket 3 times (after chiseling out the old one; who knew you had to glue in the new one?) and then happened across info that said you needed to assemble the unit with the handle in the notch at the "NW" location or the gasket wouldn't seat right. Do yourself a big favor and save yourself the time, expense & frustration of replacing bits & pieces of this. Just what the "pool doctor" recommended. Exactly the part I needed to fix my issue! Spend the extra even though you think you don't need a new "bell". You will come out way ahead by just replacing the whole unit; 8 bolts out, 8 bolts in. Fantastic!!!

After less than 2 years, the handle that you push down to move the valve snapped off. Seems kind of cheap and crappy for a supposed high end brand.
