Conair Voltage Converter and Universal Travel Adapter, European Travel Plug Adapter, Univerasal Adapter Plug Converter for Travel, 1 Piece Set

I don't know why so many people report having problems with this Conair Travel Smart adapter/converter. I just got back home after using it for a week long trip to Shanghai and it worked absolutely perfectly. It was a complete no-brainer - plug it into the 220 volt wall socket in my hotel room and then plug my electronic device into the Conair adapter/converter. I used it literally every single day of my trip and it worked flawlessly.I suspect that many people have been overloading the power conversion circuitry by plugging in high current things like a hair dryer and hence the bad reviews. Here's another bit of travel advice - get a travel hair dryer that works off of 220 volts so you won't need this adapter/converter unit. I use a Conair 124ANP 1600 Watt travel hair dryer (also bought from Amazon for my trip to Shanghai) and it works off of 110 and 220 volts without a separate voltage converter so I will never plug it into my Conair converter and overload it.Note that I only used low current electronics with this converter so I never got anywhere near its 1875 Watt power rating. I only used it for my shaver, electric toothbrush charger, and my wife used it for her curling iron. All that I know is that mine works great and I would not hesitate to buy another one if I needed to.UpdateI just got back home from a two week vacation to France and Switzerland and this Conair Travel Smart voltage converter/adapter worked flawlessly in both countries. Since I bought it in 2016, I have now used it throughout several trips to both China and Japan. I have also used it in the United Kingdom as well. It has continued to work great on all of my trips out of the USA and I am still very happy with it. I have no regrets about purchasing it.

I went to a work conference Italy, UK and France recently and brought this along. I was unsure about Italy, since there were only 2 prongs that come out of this converter, and I am aware that some of the outlets actually have 3 holes. Well, the 2-pronged one worked great! In the UK, there is a middle plastic thing that you need to pull out to fit into the third hole of the outlet.The place to insert the US plugs only allows for the plugs where both prongs are small. My large hair flat-iron would not fit into the plug, since the end of one of the prongs is larger than the other. My small travel flat-iron works fine. I used this mainly to charge my laptop and phones. There is no USB port, so it is helpful if you bring a plug that allows you to charge multiple USB devices at once. The little green light that says surge protector on give a peace of mind if you plug in laptops or other important items.

I specifically purchased this converter/adapter made by conair so that I could take my dual voltage curling iron to Europe this summer. This item claims to not only be an adaptor but also a convertor- tolerating anything from 110-220W. I was very excited to be able to use this with my brand new curling iron, that is also dual voltage and would work with either wattage. Unfortunately, this item completely ruined my brand new $170 curling iron. In fact, this adaptor/ convertor blew every item I plugged in. I have never had a problem charging my iPhone on ANY adaptor however it blew through two of my apple charging blocks. Luckily it never started a fire but upon plugging anything into this item, there was a small flash, which resulted in every item displaying permanent singe marks on the prongs as well ruining the cords plugged in. M I am incredibly disappointed in Conair for creating such a cheap rendition of what could be a really great tool. DO NOT TRUST THIS PRODUCT. I had much better success with a regular adaptor that didn’t claim to work with hair tools.

**Original Post (see updated below)** It worked one night in Bali and that was it. I bought two so my wife and I could charge our phones at night. It worked the first day/night and that was it. After that it would charge for a second and then stop, charge and then stop, over and over and over again. The rest of the trip we had to borrow other peoples converters and rely on our portable chargers.**UPDATE** (Moved review from a 1 star to a 4 star after) Found out one of the wires we were using in Bali wasn't working correctly, but had used others in Bali too so still not completely sure on what the issue was. I kept the product after Bali and decided to try it again, this time in Italy. We were able to use both chargers/converts for charging our battery packs and phones while in Italy. Not sure if it was the electricity in Bali or what, but they seem to work fine now. I will keep them for now, but will still bring our other multi-port charger/ converter when traveling. We'll use these for quicker/easier charging needs.

Every time I travel outside the United States, at least 2 of these go with me. I now own four of this same model which came in handy when one of my friends was going to Europe about the same time I was going on vacation outside the US. They're reliable and, despite the cautions I've read in the booklet that came with it, it does just fine for long periods of time (though I'm not suggesting you do this yourself as I'm sure it was written for some good purpose or another!).
