Vikings real historical damage in Wessex was on vowel pronunciations and lack of verb conjugations - So- Excellent & Accurate
This historical drama has all the elements of a great show, a formula to follow for any genre piece set in any time or location like well-developed characters, flawed heroes, charming villains, surprise plot twists, and that tried and true method of ending an episode on a cliff hanger to break down any small amount of self-control that IP based television viewers may still have so that binge watching thirty in a row is a guilty fun indulgence. However, there is one component that is distinct to Vikings which is not always present in other period pieces; something of a relief to a viewer not to have to exercise in great quantity or here on this show, rarely if at all. One only has to revisit your course on The Study of Theatre mandatory fine arts elective to recall what a stumbling block a show producers could create by relying too much on the practice of calling for the suspension of disbelief in their viewers. As an expert study even if I do say so myself on combative cultures spanning all of world history, I truly have not yet been made aware of an awkward byproduct of either script or scene that has called on me to employ the former method; so in addition to enjoying watching well rounded, likeable characters interact with one another in interesting plots while hacking each other to death along the latest faction lines, I recommend it as a family show too for the historical accuracy and insight it offers into that elusive post Roman post Norman period of English resolve to end incursions on to their beloved island home like those on the Norwegian Coast as I recall it was referred to, thus setting a precedent which the British would adhere to with such resolve that whether from the Armada, Napoleonic continental system of blockade while seeing invasion opportunities to Luftwaffe steel raining bombs to prep for Operation Sea Lion. But all were repelled by that resolve largely stirred up by Vikings, who in the end, inflicted the greatest damage on the King's Speech as well as the one their Yankee cousins mangle with the great vowel shift and redundant, non-conjugated verbs for different subject pronouns by number or familiarity. These shortcuts linguistic researchers reason are the imposed by a conquering army, adults past prime second language learning years, who try sincerely to learn but end up taking linguistic shortcuts for the sake of expediency during transactions with the native people.. So for example and in summary:Vikings,3: I liked it, you presumably will have liked it, my wife liked it, the neighbor liked it, the whole family - we all liked it, I heard in Norway they liked it,...

A fabulous & true Story!!
I ended up watching all 6 seasons of this show. Was dissapointed that Prime started charging for it when it was free and then I noticed they were showing it on Netflix which I subscribe too so I watched the remainder of it on there.

stick with it, and it will be worth it
This series is a lot closer to a 5-star series than a 4. Vikings opens a window onto a group of people who culturally view and deal with life in a very different manner from anything I am used to. The primary and most obvious difference is that death (either their own or someone else's) means very little to them. The window onto Viking culture leaves me kind of mentally sorting through dialogue and action that takes place, marking off the things that I think are similar or different from my own experience of life. I like the way heroes and villains are handled in this series. Even the worst Viking villains are not going to yell for their Mommy when it comes time for their (typically brutal) punishment. And the best heroes (Ragnar) can turn bloodily murderous at the drop of a hat. There is an unstated evolution taking place in Ragnar where he seems to sense that savagery is not an optimal way of life. He seems to be slowly awakening to the novel idea that human life might have value, and this awakening potentially connects him to you and me and our own lives. Ragnar's most attractive quality is not his faceted, piercing blue eyes, but his intellectual curiosity, which by necessity, always takes second place to his need to maintain dominance by destroying anything blocking his path.Ragnar is surrounded by interesting Vikings: Floki the Loki-like, artistically crazy, boat-builder/inventor/Norse-god-fanatic. Lagaertha, the ultimate combination of Nordic beauty and female warrior. Rollo, the ultimate male warrior, Ragnar's brother, who can't seem to get out of Ragnar's shadow and find a place for himself that suits his needs and ambitions. And many more.I do want to raise one caveat, which is the fact that somehow I started watching Vikings at season 2. I didn't realize this until halfway through season 4A, at which point I then went back and watched Season 1. Season 1 took a little time to really get its balance, which didn't bother me at all because I already knew where it was going. But looking at some nasty critiques of the series later on, I realized that many of these critiques were coming from people who had watched a couple of episodes from season 1 and weren't patient enough to keep going with it. So, my advice is if season 1 doesn't grab you right away, stick with it, and it will be worth it.

My Husband LIVES for This Series!
Well, I'm no fan of this series, but I bought it for my husband who is. He lives it, and I get to hear all about it. He is eagerly awaiting season four, and I'll buy it for him if I think I can stand the episodic retelling!
