TWA : An Airline and Its Aircraft

R.E.G Davies at his best!
This is the third book I purchased in the R.E.G. Davies series "An Airline and its Aircraft." First was PanAm, then Delta and now TWA. Together with the splendid aircraft illustrations by Mike Machat, Davies put together an utterly complete history of each of these airlines in a little over 100 pages (the PanAm edition a bit less). The story of each of these airlines is told through the aircraft these carriers flew (Delta still does). Each and every aircraft these carriers ever flew is identified, something I have never found in any other publication about commercial airlines. Although all three books mentioned are splendid, I did notice a progessive improvement from the PanAm book to the one about TWA. For example, in the PanAm edition scant attention is given to National Airlines which became part of PanAm after deregulation. Davies corrects this by giving the Ozark Airlines story fully six pages in the TWA history, crammed with just about as much information and illustrations as you'd expect to find in a separately published book.Anyone interested in airline and airliner histories will want to add these books to their aviation collection. Of my 32-year airline career I spent a mere 2 years with TWA, but I remember those years fondly.Anton Adema
