Exactly what was needed..
Very good sound quality, easy to set up..The temperature warning is extremely helpful, went off twice while I was having lunch with my father..he’s in the early stages of dementia and has a habit of turning things off, heating, plugs etc..Haven’t tried the recording function yet, but that’s definitely going to help..!!We’ll see how the battery life goes, after about a month or two of use…Its quality stands out, I’ve already recommended it to someone else with a relative with a similar medical condition..The usb connection is a good idea too!Overall a good quality product..

Great for the Older User
I bought this for my Mum - aged 97 - and am so glad I did, especially now as I can't get to see her at the moment.Easy to use, with big buttons and display means she can tune in to her beloved Jazz stations. The warnings are great too . "It's too cold" says the Silver Server when the temperature has dropped - that's important as Mum doesn't notice when she is sat in her chair all day. Useful to automatically remind her to "drink some water", or a timed intervention "Don't forget to take your pills".So glad I bought this. Its great.

Easy to use very practical product
I have just set this up for my parents who are managing at home but getting on a bit. The radio can be set up to play personalised messages at preset times which they find most amusing! Got the grandkids to record a few messages which pop up to make them smile. Also as a nudge for tablets / locking doors and windows at night - it’s kind of like a daily conversation. You can preset temp alert in case it drops below a certain level which is a smart feature. My parents house like a sauna so don’t spose that will kick in but good to have ongoing. Radio just as you’d expect works well decent sound easy to programme. All in all pleased with it and an innovative but simple idea.

Radio did not work
I bought this radio for my mum who has dementia. The radio had no sound from the first time we switched it on . I contacted amazon and via message was told I had gone beyond the 30 day return window. I'm very disappointed that I couldn't contact the seller either, there were no contact details. I would not buy electronics from amazon again.

Excellent Radio
I am in my seventies and found it easy to set-up the Silver Server radio first time, including pre-setting my favourite stations. It has 11 FM stations and 85 DAB stations.2 Country, 4 religious, 7 talk, 2 classical, 1 jazz, the remainder are pop, rock and easy listening. The radio is sturdy and well made, instructions are easy to understand and it has a 3-pin plug.

Don’t buy this for an elderly person
I bought this for my 90-year-old mother, who has dementia and impaired vision. I thought that the fact that this radio has three simple presets would make it foolproof for her to use. In theory I was right but in practice I was wrong. The trouble is that in order to assign a frequency to one of the three preset buttons you have to hold the button down for only a second. All other similar devices that I have experienced require you to hold the button down for two or three seconds, but this one overwrites the content with just a firm press. So when my mother is listening, say, to LBC and she wants to listen to BBC Radio 4 she presses the second button. Because she presses firmly on the button, LBC is then assigned to the button that did have Radio 4, and she loses that station. And because she has poor eyesight she can’t re-tune the radio herself. This bizarre design decision (to assign new stations on a less than one-second press as opposed to holding the button down for three seconds or more) is one worthy of an award for idiocy. In other news, the sound quality of this radio is not good. It’s boxy and honky, and while just adequate for speech, it’s inadequate for music.
