War Machine: How to Transform Yourself Into A Vicious And Deadly Street Fighter (War Machine System)

Okay so it's called "War Machine." My first thought was this must be some type of Viking/Gladiator manual with Spartan workouts involved. My 2nd thought was I was hoping it wasn't going to be the run of the mill commonplace workouts when people put together a workout manual. My 2nd thought was DEAD WRONG! and Sammy Franco is NOT some average combatives/martial arts instructor looking to mislead people, and not some black belt/karate stuff that gets a lot of those guys/girls hospitalized or worse in the streets, among other things those out there who deem themselves or want the Genuine stuff that works out in the field. He has taught military personnel, police, personal security specialists, there is an "about him" at the back of the book that anyone into combatives/martial arts would enjoy reading. There is some very heavy duty information on him. I recommend you going to his website if you want to know anything more, just google Contemporary Fighting Arts and you'll find it.Onto "War Machine" now. 1st things first, most people get a good idea from the table of contents so I'll start therePart I: War Machine PsychologyPart II: War Machine PhysiologyPart III: War Machine CombativesPart IV: War Machine UnleashedPart V: War Machine Unleashednote: there are also four appendixes on "Battle Casualties" "Code of Conduct" "A Glossary of Terminology" "Suggested further reading on various related topics" and an "About the Author"So breaking it down without typing the entire book, which I don't think Sammy would appreciate, he elaborates on information on fighting psychology/provides intense workout regimens/the realities of street fighting/combat etc.To summarize it in one sentence, it is an all out manual on Hard-Core street fighting, the psychology of attacks and the attackers, interspersed with warrior philosophy, profound warrior quotes, and unique methods of protecting yourself from the would be perpetrators trying to mess up your day in a bad way.I thoroughly enjoy the contents, and the workouts are truly intense and geared towards developing a Gladiator's mindset and physical form. I have been at it for a few months now and it definitely optimizes you into battle ready form in body, mind, and spirit in the truest sense. I don't believe I've seen anything like this ever written since Bruce Lee wrote "The Tao of Jeet Kune Do." War Machine Tops it though on levels that Bruce Lee didn't touch on. At least on the fighting psychology aspect of it.Anyone who would think of "War Machine" as just another book on diagrams, fighting techniques, and sloppy workouts is in for a rude awakening, because nothing could be further from the truth. This is thee Ultimate manual, you don't need any other book if you are seeking out the difference of what has been said and what SHOULD be said. This book is well worth it, deserves and has earned all it's stars, and will arm you with the knowledge you really need. What more needs to be said other than this book is Super Kick Ass!! Very Highly Recommended!

A complete basic guide to developing the essential factors required to be a true warrior.
I have read and reviewed several of Sammy Franco’s books in the past and decided to purchase a couple more of his texts. This one (War Machine: How to transform yourself into a vicious and deadly Street fighter) covers in detail the basic requirements to become a true warrior in street combat. I agree with most of the material in this 165 page volume and I have taught most of the very same principles he outlines in this book. One example where the author, Sammy Franco, and I agree upon is the importance of being in top physical condition for street combat. I personally think it is essential to be in as good shape physically as you can. Surprisingly, there are some present day self-defense instructors who do not believe fitness as anything to do with street combat effectiveness. I disagree completely with this point of view. There are always unknown factors when it comes to self-defense but being physically fit can only enhance your street survival skills. This very informative text is organized into five parts. After the introduction about “Contemporary Fighting Arts” which the author created, part 1 covers the war machine psychology. The second part deals with the war machine physiology. The third part gets into war machine combatives. The war machine unleashed is explored in part four. Part five explains the war machine philosophy. Do not skim over the appendix sections because they contain important information on battle casualties, war machine code of conduct, war machine glossary and suggested reading. I was familiar with most of the material in this text because I have been teaching most of the same topics in my more than 50 years of training both as a student and an instructor. I recommend this book highly for anyone seeking a practical and truthful text on learning the essential factors required to be a true warrior.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Excellent as always.
First off, for those that think a bodybuilding type workout is not functional for a street fight, I would say that they need to know that whilst employing the sound tactics outlined in Mr Franco's other books, a fight, even with multiple opponents, should not last longer than 30 seconds and usually less. Having lean mass will enable you to add that extra power and explosiveness to your attacks.Secondly, a street fight or aelf defence situation is not a MMA competition. So while having good cardiovascular fitness ( and the book does cover this) will stop you from "gassing out" over a long period, you don't need to be as conditioned as a MMA fighter. But, if you are following the training regimes from Mr Franco's other works, you will have incredible endurance just the same.

More what War Machine, then how W M....
I've read Franco's heavy bag training, which I heartily recommend, where in he promotes his 'Armed to the teeth' series. I purchased this book in the hopes it would cover some of his techniques without having to order the DVD and shipping it from the states. The book itself promotes and brushes over strength training via the use of free weights and machines. This is his option, I feel this training regime is dated. having big muscles does have some intimation merit, but can limit your mobility. If you do get in trouble then you need to be agile enough to escape.Technique wise much of the basics are covered, with knife and other weapon attacks quickly brushed over. There is quite a few chapters covering principals and philosophy, this is again touched on and abbreviated.Overall this book covers most of the basic principals I would expect from a self defence / modern warrior book in a brief, easy to cover format. While I would like to read a lot more on the how, this is definitely more of Franco's manifesto on what a 'War Machine' should be rather then detailing ways to achieve this.

I wanted this book to be so much better, the routine described is nothing special the only thing that marks it out as different is that it seems to be body building oriented rather than functional fitness that most people writing this kind of material go for. I honestly can't recommend this.
