Perfect solution
Fixed the problem where my ice maker was using too much water and the tray overflowed every time, leaking into the ice container and forming a large block of ice. Very easy to install and cheaper than a whole new ice maker.

Easy to install, fixed my issue of no ice
My whirlpool gold refrigerator has stopped making ice twice. It's pretty much one of 3 things. The water line that fills the icemaker is frozen, which hasn't happened yet, the water valve is bad, which our hard water caused the first time, or this part is bad.Signs that it's this part are that there is a very small amount of frozen water at the bottom of the tray. I didn't see it and assumed it was the valve. Not knowing that a family member had already cleaned it out. We replaced the water valve first, which is also easy.To replace this part, remove the flap that directs cubes down into the bin. Slide the top two shelves out. There is a screw on the back underside that covers the wiring harness and holds everything in place. Remove the screw and cover. The whole icemaker just sits in a grove like a shelf. It might be a little tight, but pull the whole thing out. There is a large square cap on the opposite side from the wire. Again, it's tight, but it just pulls off. You'll find the controller head under here. There are three screws that hold it in. Remove them and pull it off. There are no wires attached. It just has friction fit connectors. Push the new one on and replace the screws. Re-install in reverse and it should start making ice. There are two holes labeled T and H on the side of the controller. Supposedly you can jump these with wire and start a slow cycle of the dispenser. Make sure you have it back in place before it completes a rotation, because it squirts out new water at the end. Even jumping it and making sure the flap was pushed too and nothing was blocking the beam didn't engage ours. I thought it was yet another part. I reinstalled everything and the next morning it was 1/4 full of ice.
