Montana Territory (A John Hawk Western)

An action packed third book in the new John Hawk western series. A great read.
It is easy to get hooked on a book series when there is great writing, a compelling story with interesting characters (such as John Hawk) combined with plenty of action. This is the third book in this new western series (Montana Territory: A John Hawk western by Charles G. West, 291 pages) and if you are into western novels you should check out this John Hawk series. For those not familiar with this series, John Hawk is one of the best scouts for the U.S. Army and his even tempered nature, sympathy for the victims he encounters, courage, professionalism and independence makes him an interesting and compelling hero. Unlike other western characters, Hawk relies on his rifle more than his handgun, though he is good with both.In this tale, even though he was fired by Lt. Harvey Meade, who is in charge of all the Army scouts, and just dislikes Hawk because they butt heads too much and is just jealous of Hawk; nevertheless, Hawk’s friend Lt. Mathew Connor gets Hawk reinstated for an important mission involving a mule train of Quakers who were ambushed by a gang of outlaws. In fact, these vicious men killed most of the group with only 7 people were still alive. Needless to say, you know John Hawk will be hunting for them.I never give away too much information when reviewing any novel because it spoils it for anyone who has decided to read the book; however, if you like action packed westerns with a great hero and savage vicious killers who must be hunted down, you will like this western novel.Rating: 5 Stars. Hoping This Series Continues!
Of the many heroic characters that Mr. West has created, I have to say John Hawk is near the top of my list. Cole Bonner is still my favorite. John is a military scout for the U.S. Army, well liked by many except for one lieutenant. He gets fired by this lieutenant, so he heads back to his cabin. Suddenly, the Army needs him again. From this point on, the author really created an interesting and original storyline. One that I did not expect. John alone has to battle an outlaw gang that is pure evil and possesses no conscience. There’s a lot of gun action and everything a good western should have. The book was so good I finished it within two days. If you have time, you should also read the first two in the series. They are all definitely worth the time to read it.

Montana Territory by Charles G. West
Book 3, in this continuing John Hawk saga, delivered a fast moving storyline with more than enough grit and gristle to keep me turning pages.Charles G. West is no dime store cowboy author with cookie-cutter scribblings. He writes with common sense and forethought. His style and content originality are 5-Star.

What a quality writer!
My first Charles West book. I thoroughly enjoyed this authors laid back style. The way he writes really brings the characters to life. I appreciate that West does not have to go into great detail in the gunfighting for us to understand the seriousness of it. I have now read 5 Charles West books and intend to read every one in print!

Greed
What a tragic story of lost lives and justice brought by a gun and the criminal punished by death. Really good book.

Better than an average western
This novel is written rather well and in a style that western lovers should like. The hero has a keen sense of what is justice and sets his sights toward fulfilling that goal.

out the way, way overused “reckon”, “feller”, “much obliged”. I was glad the book ended so not to be confronted with them anymore. Synonyms please. Plain English please. No triteness please. 4 star because it was a good story.
