Works as moisturizer and sunscreen
I play tennis and am in the elements all the time. This is another quality Brickell product. Feels great on the skin. Works to moisturize and protect against the sun. Long lasting and works even when active and perspiring. Quality ingredients as well.

Detailed review. Good product. Most will see this as sunscreen.
SUMMATION:A fast-absorbing moisturizer which exceeds recommended minimum SPF content, from a reputable company. Decent absorption speed, product may be seen as “runny” when used. Minimal noticeable odor. Most people would see this as “sunscreen” first and foremost but could certainly be used as a daily moisturizer if desired.DETAILED:Delivery and Tracking: As expected.Shipping Packaging: As expected.Product Packaging: Meets or exceeds Amazon’s “Compact by Design” certification. White lettering with sleek black matte finish and texture makes for clear reading and easier gripping. The tube itself is not difficult to squeeze to dispense product. Cap is easily opened, but not so much that there is risk of accidental leakage/spilling if properly secured. Users may experience some spillage into the cap if the top isn’t wiped clean after usage.Product Overview: To be sure, this is more a “sunscreen” in the classic sense. It can be used as a moisturizer as well but should be approached as a sunblock. The size of the tube, look and feel of the product itself along with the SPF and description of how many applications to expect are more in line with a day at the beach/golf course than a day-to-day face moisturizer/sunblock. Vegan and cruelty free are certainly a plus.Look and Feel: The product itself is as expected, not greasy or oily however the tradeoff is that the consistency is a little more on the “runny” side. I did not personally find this to be an issue. Because this is first and foremost a sunscreen, users should expect a light “sunscreen odor”. This mostly faded for me after a few minutes. No other noticeable odors.Application and Absorption: I am using this primarily as a facial moisturizer/protectant. The consistency of the product made application easy and uniform with minimal effort. Initially there was some “whitish haziness” which faded quickly with some very light rubbing. While absorption is not “complete and total,” in about 1-2 minutes it was barely noticeable other than a light “shine” and a lingering faint odor of sunscreen. 30-60 minutes later this remained mostly unchanged. The SPF for this product is 45 and while higher than many other facial-only products (SPF20) it should be noted the American Academy of Dermatology recommends an SPF of at least 30.One criticism would be that when combined with water or perspiration, the area applied does become noticeably slick. In my opinion, it does not differ from any other product similar to this one and is in line with expectations of other “light/non-greasy” products. It should be noted that the product is billed as “water resistant” not “waterproof.”Overall, the combination of the ingredients including Zinc Oxide, Aloe Vera, Green Tea and Sunflower oil along with the quantity for the price paired with the environmental consciousness and Brickell reputation makes this a high recommendation for those looking for a higher SPF moisturizer.Recommended.**UPDATE**Four days later, now that I have gotten used to the product itself, I personally think it’s great and use small amounts with another oil-free moisturizer. The mild “sunscreen odor” for me dissipates (or I have learned to ignore it) pretty quickly and with the idea that “less is more” when applying to the face, the product absorbs and blends in pretty quickly as well.Again, most will see this as “sunscreen” not a facial/body moisturizer.

Natural and effective sunscreen, without stickiness, excessive shine, and unpleasant odors.
Having incorporated Brickell's skincare products into my routine for the past 7 months, exploring various items in their lineup, I can confidently say that my current regimen, including their AM and PM moisturizers, cleanser, eye cream, and eye serum, has been a positive experience. However, recognizing the importance of effective sun protection in a comprehensive skincare routine, I decided to integrate the Element Defense Moisturizer with SPF 45.Typically, I'm not diligent about sunscreen unless I expect prolonged sun exposure. Previous encounters with sunscreens, characterized by chemical odors, excessive shine, and stickiness, have made me cautious. Brickell's Element Defense Moisturizer addresses these concerns.Firstly, it lives up to its claim of being virtually scentless. The smooth, almost watery texture makes application easy, leaving a subtle sheen for a healthy glow without any sticky residue—an aspect I truly appreciate. What sets this product apart is its dual functionality as both an SPF 45 sunscreen and a moisturizer. While I haven't tested its sun protection due to the winter season in the Midwest, the use of zinc oxide, a proven safe and effective sunscreen ingredient, aligns with coral reef safety. However, it's crucial to note the presence of octocrylene and octisalate, which, while safe for humans, raise concerns about their impact on aquatic life. Despite being water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, this product may not be the best choice for those prioritizing the protection of aquatic ecosystems during water activities. If swimming in lakes or the ocean is a concern, exploring alternative options is advisable. While the product offers moisturizing effects, I wouldn't recommend it as a standalone moisturizer in your skincare routine. Octocrylene, while having emollient properties, is not as potent as dedicated moisturizer products. Nevertheless, the dual benefit of moisturization and SPF protection is a notable advantage. The product claims to be suitable for both face and body use. While I've applied it to my face without adverse effects, I prefer using a product specifically designed for facial application. Brickell does offer a facial sunscreen, which I may explore in the future. As a body sunscreen, it perfectly suits my needs, especially when applied to my bald head. It neither leaves a sticky residue nor interferes with the minimal hair on my head, making it an ideal solution for sun protection in that area.In conclusion, Brickell's Element Defense Moisturizer is a product I recommend. It serves as a natural and effective body sunscreen, addressing common issues of stickiness, excessive shine, and unpleasant odors.

Good Sunscreen Moisturizer
This is a good moisturizing sunscreen. It goes on a bit thick but absorbs well. I’m 68 and live in the High Desert, so dry skin is a problem. This is a good solution. I also like that it’s water resistant for 80 minutes.

Routine Keeps Getting Better!
Been using the Brickell Men’s Element Defense SPF45 Moisturizer for about a week now and it’s honestly the part of my morning routine I was missing. After cleansing and adding serums this piece is the most vital part of keeping my skin going and fresh and healthy. The protection from the UV rays is the added value but, the fact that it’s a moisturizer and sunscreen for my face (and can be used all over) has been a game changer. I’m in Southern California so it’s been great to use this daily! It’s pretty light and creamy and I do have to rub it into my skin but it does absorb nicely after I’ve worked it in without leaving that white residue. In the past I’ve experienced that white cast where it kind of breaks up and leaves those little white specs of residue on your face from being so thick; not here. Brickell really hit the mark with this one. I’m also bald so I throw some on too if the dome too to make sure I’m protecting the entire investment, me!Recommend if you don’t have an spf45 to try this one! From the product itself and the packaging it’s worth it. And take it from me, a little bit goes a long way when applying so the bottle seems like it will last for a while which is even better.
